Missing toe

So I was feeding and cleaning tonight and when I checked on my boy Argento he was in his moist hide. Took him out, handed him to hubby while I took the dishes, hides and tiles out of the tank as he is 'all boy' and gets poo, food, water, moss (from the moist hide) ALL OVER his tank. Got the tiles to the sink and saw blood smeared all over them. Needless to say I freaked out and ran to get Argento. He had been shedding so I assume he was rubbing all over the tank and his right hind foot is missing half of its middle toe:main_no:. I couldn't believe it! The only thing I can think of is he got it caught in the teeny tiny crack between the tiles and was spazzing so much during his shed that he just ripped the first 1/2 of his toe off.... sound like something that could happen? I mean other then that I have NO idea what could have happened. I put ointment on it and I believe that's all I can do I just want to make sure and to ask how 'normal' is this (getting hurt during sheds). Thanks for any replies and info.

We have one boy that chews his toes off whenever he sheds if I don't soak him and get it off his feet right away. We keep a moist hide in his tank. He was a rescue and was missing 3 toes when we got him and he chewed 2 more off during that first shed here . I have to keep a close eye on him now.

Ok so I've been putting triple antibiotic ointment on Argentos toe twice yesterday. I know it's not good to put peroxide on the toe (even diluted) so I was wondering if it would be ok to instead put some betadine on it? I know that for mites they recommend a diluted betadine bath to 'help cleanse the bite wounds and start healing' so would this work for the toe also?

It seems a little dark under the skin (not black) but I believe that is only a bruise from the injury not the toe going necrotic (it wouldn't go necrotic in less then 24hrs right?).

I have two girls who never shed the skin on their toes anymore. We didn't catch it the first time and they both lost some toes. It never matters how humid it is either. They healed on their own though with no problems. You might just have to watch his toes the next couple times he sheds to see if he's having any problems.
