Do any of your leo's enjoying having the tank misted? Is it a good thing to do?

In my experience geckos hate being misted.I wouldnt recommend misting their cages because that would elevate greatly the humidity causing respiratory problems.they do like to have a moist hide though giving them the dampness when they need it

Really Roger? My leo loves having his tank misted, he goes around licking everything, and it dries within an hour. I mist every other day esp. in the winter when the air is so dry.

Im talking the constant humidity rather than what your doing though.yours dries within an hour. Its when there is constant high humidity in your enclosure where you'll run into trouble.i dont see a big problem with what your doing

+1 :main_yes: They have their moist hide and a water bowl, no need to mist.

Unless you have a new hatchling that's a completly different story ;)

I use a moist hide and mist the baby tubs and have never had a problem yet, its been working for me for over 12 years now.

if the feces are wet, theyll partly evaproate into the air, spreading the germs and your gecko breathes in its own poo?

i dunno... taking a guess.

With excessive moisture, feces also produce an odor and fungal problems. Sometimes a bit of water would slosh over onto the paper towel substrate while closing my rack drawers too quickly. When water gets in with the feces I noticed my tanks seemed to become very smelly very quickly so I just use humid hides and try to rotate my water dish until it is well away from most designated pooping spots. :]

*(horse related bit) Even at the barn, when we get heavy rains or there has been water getting into the barn somehow... the ammonia (although the stalls were being taken care of like normal) would be so much stronger smelling than usual. It really isn't good for anyone's nose. lol.

Eros does too now that I added one on top of his hot hide with paper towels insted of just the one with the sphagnum moss, but my concern was that it never seemed like he was using his water bowl and I got the suggestion from an experienced keeper to lightly ist hs tank to make sure he was drinking enough. He doesn't like the hiss of the bottle, but is getting more andmore use to it now to the point where when he hears it he comes out and walks around in the mist licking everything.

Dog shrink- The concern I have in your situation is that while u are spraying every second day and then he uses his hide everyday that will be too much humidity.Although u dont see eros drinking i can tell u 100% that he does.If u did only one of the two, misting or humid hide that would be good but to do both things imo would be too much

I'm not sure who told you to mist the tank along WITH the humid hide...but from what I've always read/told is NOT to do that...Wayyy too much humidity :main_no:

Interesting thoughs Roger. The only time I see him use the paper towel hide is when he's fixin to shed, and I do think he's using the water bowl more often since I switched to spring water insted of tap water so I guess I should only mist his sphagnum moss and his moist hide with the paper towels then.

I wouldnt recommend misting a tank and Ive never misted my tanks.Ive never heard of ppl doing that.Just so there is no confusion ,If i had to recommend one obviously it would be the humid hide.Misting the entire tank at least to my understanding is just not done.I dont recommend both Just like u said pretty its too much.
