Yeah they can. Any reptile can. Its a big pain to get rid of. Anouther great reason to quarentine for a min of 30 days when you get new reptiles. Mite-Off works pretty good.
Mites on lizards appear different than mites on a snake. I think not sure though, that they would be a different sub species of mite. I do know that the mites that infect lizards are red and not black in appearance. They also mainly gather on the lizards armpits and in the ears. It has been yearssssss since I have seen mites on a lizard. But I am alot more careful whom and where I buy from.
Mites can affect any reptile, but they are not as common in Leopard Geckos becasue their scale structure is much different, making it more difficult for the parasites to get under. You would see it on their undersides before you'd see it on thier backs.
