Moist hide issues

Ok I have been using papertowels in my geckos warm/moist hides I use 2 layers of papertowels and I mist everyother day, I'm curious if I should start misiting more because last night I noticed my girl stormy had extra shed on her toes, well after a warm soak and me tryin to get the shed off her toes I noticed I pulled one layer off and there was ANOTHER layer under the first one. This sorta worries me that I am not giving her enough humidity.

Should I start misting everyday? I don't want them to get a infection from to much though. I've tried using substrates for the moist hides, peat moss etc but my females will NOT have it they dig it out and do not like it for some reason. I could try it again any advice on something thick I could buy that wouldn't be able to be dug out so easy? I seen some moss stuff at the petstore but wasn't sure it was safe to use for them.

possibly try a different substrate. Some kind of moss or something that holds better humidity. I noticed my geckos didnt shed as well with paper towels. As soon as I switched to moss they were having complete sheds with no problems and I only sprayed them down 1/10th of what I was when I was using paper towels.

I use paper towels and never had this problem but i always keep the paper towel soaked, not just misted. if the paper towl is wet the geckos won;tget it on them. I keep it this moist all the time. I check it everyday to make sure. Another reason I keep it this moist all the time is because I have a couple females that always lay their eggs in the moist hide.

I use paper towels, but like the above post, I keep them very moist and change them everyday. They are more soaked than moist.

Hi there,

we normally use hides with moist "cocos-humus". I'm not sure if you call it like we do in Germany, but it is some kind of coconut fibres. The geckos really like it and it works very well. And it is also very well for laying eggs inside. We had no problems yet with this way.

Yeah i use the coco-fiber stuff for the egg laying chambers but I also have in eack tub a humid hide as well. Over kill maybe but its working for me so I dare not change anything.

I think will try the peat moss again just with her, it seems the rest do perfect on their shedding.

I use extra caution during a shed to really wet the paper towels, I did use coco fiber which holds the moisture (since you can make it deeper) a little better but they make a bigger mess as well.

I think might try the coco instead do you know where I can buy it?

I use eco earth. It stays moist for a few days usualy. another thing that may help is having the hole to your hide at the top rather then on the side. I know you already made those cute hides so you might not want to change them but thats what I do because they can not kick out the substrate.

I don't mind switching the hides, I have quite a few of those plastic containers around, I'm going to play around with it and see what happens.

pretty simple I guess, I've got some laying around and I got some moss today so I'm going to give her a whirl and see what happens, thanks for posting the pics!
