My brother is in Bangladesh, and has been sending me pictures of the various reptiles he has seen. I'm wondering if anyone can help me I.D. this guy? Photo was taken in Bangladesh. Thanks!

Varanus flavescens. BSM, come on dude, Niles are African :)

Flavescens are Cites 1, semi-aquatic monitors that are not in U.S. collections. They are known to turn bright red and gold when heated up properly.

Great photo, are you willing to submit more for a monitor lizard journal called Biawak?

Cheers,

John

I'd love to, but its my brother thats in Bangladesh, and it was just a one time sighting. If he happens to come across another one, I'm sure he'll take some more pictures. Do you have any info/website to the journal? Thanks for the I.D.

Go to Varanidae.org- the journal is BIAWAK. You can submit your photo to the editor there.

Thanks
