Morph dossier index - Need your opinions

I've said before that I was trying to make a dossier of all leopard gecko morphs, but deciding the contents is taking me ages! I can't think of any way of structuring the whole article properly :( Please take a look at the index I made and tell me what would you add or take, how would you structure it, any suggestions are appreciated.

Ps: There are many "morphs" included that I don't consider they are worth mentioning, but I'm trying to make it as complete as possible (for example, mentioning the 'chocolate' gecko that is only a cooled tang, or the 'golden' that is a cooled high yellow, or the frekled that it's just a wild type with smaller spots than normal...) I'm trying that my personal opinions don't interfere with it, so I'm including everything that has been labeled as morph once. So please take that into account when making suggestions.

INTRODUCTION

-Prologue

-Genetics
------Introduction
------What does phenotype/genotype mean?
------What does homozygous/heterozygous mean?
------What is recessive/dominant/co-dominant/incomplete dominant?
------What is a line-bred/polygenic trait?

-F.A.Q
------My gecko is x morph. How do I take care of it? You would be surprised of how many times I have been asked this!
------What does '100%' or '66% het' mean?
------If I cross x with y, what do I get?
------Why is it that there are three different strains of albinism? What happens if I cross them?
------If there are so many traits involved in (R)A.P.T.O.R genetics, why is it that sometimes you can see things like 'het. (R)A.P.T.O.R?
------What do the morphs names mean? I just decided to add this section to translate the names into Spanish, after seeing one person confused about the terms 'blizzard' and 'ventisca' (blizzard in Spanish). He thought they were two different morphs.
------I've read the article and know about morphs. Now, how should I classify my gecko?

Sounds like a big project! Good luck with it.

A few points: the correct spelling is "phenotype". I can't see Mack Snows anywhere except 'Hypo Mack snow' unless I am missing something. Also can't find enigmas on the list.

I see Blazing Blizzards, but no Blizzards, and I see Patternless albino but no Patternles (Murphy's).
That's why I said...

I haven't finished yet, but at this rate I'm going to fall asleep on the keyboard. I'll translate the rest tomorrow :main_thumbsup:
There's still the tangerine type, patternless type, blizzard type, giant type, Mack snow type and ocular traits. I'll finish the translation as soon as possible :)

Ouch, sorry :main_lipsrsealed: I'll correct it right away.

Looks impressive so far. I don't think the enigma is purely an ocular trait, my enigma's colouration/pattern is very different from wild type leos, but other than that excellent. It will take up a lot of your time, though, I'm sure.

I have written 14 pages so far, skipping the most recently added sections that haven't been written yet, and I haven't even reached the 'hypomelanistic type' section. Just imagine :(

I've seen the pics of enigmas in this forum and they all look so different... There are some that look just like normals with red eyes, other look more 'pastel-ish', other are strinking orange, other don't have red eyes... I don't know what to do about them, I'm totally clueless :main_huh:

I need to study them more thoroughly, I will read carefully all the threads about enigmas posted here when I have some time. In the meanwhile, any suggestions for it? I thought of giving the enigmas and eclipses their own sections and removing the "ocular traits" section. I did that because at first they where classified by pattern, color, size and eyes. But I realized there where too many combinations to do that, I couldn't classify many of the morphs.

I don't really think anyone knows much about the enigmas at the moment, other than it is a dominant morph (or so I believe). As you say, there is huge variation among them, even as far as some having red eyes and others not. One theory is occular albinism, but that doesn't convince me. Maybe just have to wait until more is known before writing that section, or at least updating it as our knowledge increases.

Dont think so. McDonalds actually coined the term. LOL

Kidding! A lot of people were calling them Big Macks on Fauna Classifieds long before VMS herp ever hatched a Mack Snow. A lot of people also produced Giant Mack Snows before them. So I dont know about that.

As fars as "Super Sized" Big Macks goes.:main_thumbsdown:

cjreptiles, I think you are right, I will leave enigmas for later. The rest of the article it's going to take a considerable amount of time itself, so maybe enigmas are better known by then.

Thank you for your comments, everyone :main_thumbsup:

I'm glad you liked it! At first it was going to be only in Spanish but as many people is requesting it... I may translate is for international use. I think I will just link it here when it's finished so you can make a quick overview and see how many people is interested in reading it.

Who knows, maybe even if the index looks good after seeing the whole article you all think it stinks!! (I hope you don't, LOL!!) and then it would be meaningless to translate the whole thing.

I was not thinking of using photos, but drawings. Although I may not look like it I have been studying arts since I was very young, so I'm not lay at it! Photos are nicer but I think sketches are more explanatory. That's one of the reasons why it is taking me so much to finish. Until know I was using the computer for that purpose but I think I will make them by hand and will paint them with watercolors or something. It will look better.

-wow! you are very serious, I know the work of drawing and painting all this morphs, God!
I had a company as an illustrator. I draw animals and nature for national parks, info folders and things like that.

Good luck, I look forward to see your work!

Lottiz, I would love to see your work! Would you post some of your illustrations in another thread, please?

Mine won't probably be so good, since these last years I've been drawing only human figures and still lifes, preparing for the fine arts career (that, in last instance, I decided not to take). No animals at all. This last year I've just had no time to even pick a pencil, I've been busier than ever! So I'm afraid of what will come out of my hands when I try to draw the geckos, lol :p But I'll be satisfied if they are explanatory enough.

Thanks for the offer :) But I wanted to do this alone and tried to do some sketches of leos. It has taken me a lot of time to do and the results aren't fully satisfactory. I really need some practice.

Also, I hate inking, it always ruins the sketches! :main_angry: But I needed the picture to be clear so I could photocopy it without problems and use the sketches multiple times.

Let me know what you think, please. I know from my own experience that usually the person that draws something finds the drawing uglier than other people. Would you use these in an article?

I love the drawings! For whatever it might be worth - I have a friend that's a professional sculptor - any time she's looking for a different perspective, she'll look at her work reflected in a mirror. It'll flip the image so you have a fresh eye for the proportions and detail. IMO, they look GREAT! Very cool!
