Mosaic Tiles

So I'm considering tiling the bottom of my terrarium, and I was curious what you thought of glass mosaic tiles. I would be able to do some cool colors/patterns and all of that, but my concern would be heating. I have a UTH as well as overhead lights. Would glass tiles sealed over top the glass cage bottom cause cracking/overheating/other issues? Any feedback would be much appreciated!

I've been thinking about this some more, and I think I may tile a piece of cork board that would fit snugly in the bottom of the terrarium. That way, it is removable, but at the same time has a nice finished, grouted look. Do yo think cork board would be an appropriate medium to go between the tiles and glass cage bottom? Is there something better that you would recommend?

The only reason I wanted to do glass tiles is just because I'd have a little more creative freedom to make a design or pattern. Slate typically only comes in 12 x 12 and only certain colors, whereas you can get 1 inch glass tiles of any color imaginable. I'm not saying I'm definitely doing this, I'm just wondering if it is doable.

You can do nice mosaics with stone, but I would not use glass. If you can get different color stone tiles it would be better. You could find some travertine and different colors slates to give you color variation. The only problem I see is that you have a much greater chance of catching themselves on all the joints and or sharp edges. May be a little hard with feeders also. You could even grout tiles in a pan and set the pan in sections to make it easy to remove and less joints. I just think its easiest with larger tiles to pull in and out for cleanings and so on. I'm sure if you look around you can find some ideas you like and can come up with something suitable.

Yeah the more I've searched, the more I'm leaning towards a slate tile. I definitely want to grout it, to prevent food, water, and poo from collecting underneath, but I would really like to grout the tiles onto some surface that I could remove from the cage, as opposed to grouting it on the cage bottom. I have a piece of cork board I could cut down and use, but I'm not sure what the heat transfer would be like. What are your thoughts on cork board? Would there be another better material you'd recommend for my purposes?

Glass tiles would have been pretty, but I knew it was a long shot on the practicality.
