Moss?

So, I have a couple of questions! :D Can I use peat moss if I take it out when feeding my leo with crickets? Also, will I need a moist hide if there are other places to hide in the cage, and the moss is not in any of those hiding areas? Finally, what side would I put the moss on?

Thanks!

If I were going to use moss in my Leo tank, I would specifically keep it in the moist hide.

If you intend to keep it around the tank for aesthetic reasons, you'll find it to be a royal pain to remove every day for feeding. And I assume you mean that you would keep it dry (?) in the enclosure? You will still need a moist hide for your leo. It's going to be the #1 help for it to loosen it's shedding skin and regulate its temperature.

I would be putting it on one side of the tank or in the hide, and no, it would be wet.

if your using peat moss in the hide it needs to only be moist.if u are using peat moss on one side of the cage it should be dry if u insist on using peat.I would use another substrate

Leos come from a dry environment. They do not need/want high humidity all the time. That can lead to respiratory and skin problems. A moist hide is enough to let them shed. I like moss for moist hides because it holds the moisture a much longer time than paper towels. Unfortunately my guys like to dig the moss out of their hides and then go inside, leaving moss all over the cage.

Thank you. I will be using peatmoss in my moist hide then. Is it true crickets can lay eggs in it?

Why not just use sphagnum moss in the moist hides? It has antibacterial antifungal qualities, keeps wet for a long time, there is no danger of inhailing the finer particles like peat moss, and doesn't break down like peat moss does/can. It is also a lot harder for a leo to ingest accidentally as it is kidna stringy and they can pul it out of their mouth if they accidentally get a it grabbing prey.
