So I have a bit of a conundrum. I'm going to be going to a show in Hamburg, PA December 1 and picking up some mourning geckos. They're very little communal geckos (2.5" - 3.5") that require arboreal habitats. My problem is cage size. I'd like to get maybe four of these guys to start with. They're all females that reproduce asexually, so I'll definitely end up with more. The options (glass terrariums) I've found are:
Exo Terra Mini Tall 12” x 12” x 18” (~11 gallons)
Exo Terra Small Tall 18” x 18” x 24” (~33 gallons)
Zoo Med Small 18"x18"x18" (~25 gallons)
The problem with #1 is that it's smaller than I'd like. The problem with #2 is that it's larger than I'd like; part of the joy of having them is watching them interact, and with such a large terrarium for such small things, I wouldn't get to see that much. Problem with #3 is that it's not tall.
Reptibreeze ones would work better because they're the right size and shape, but these guys require humidity between 50 and 70%, so I'd need to either buy or make a background and sides. I've found a few for sale online that are pretty cheap (and the joy of these is that they can ship).
Then there's the idea of making my own, but frankly I have no experience and I'm not the handiest person on the face of the planet.
Soooo there's my problem. Thoughts? Suggestions? And anyone who doesn't know what mourning geckos are, they're these adorable little things:
