Mouth Infection

My 2 year old leopard gecko female, Moss, is currently suffering with some sort of mouth infection. She has been to the vets twice now, she was firstly prescribed baytril then a week later (Monday) was given metacam and tamodine solution to bath the sores in. The infection has caused one side of her mouth to swell up slightly and she was a white discharge in her mouth. She has now not eaten for over a month but i have been syringe feeding her critical care and giving her daily warm baths, the vet also recommended trying her with baby food. Anyway just wondering if anyone has experienced anything like this with their leos and has any advice and also if anyone has used tamodine before so i could have a rough idea how long before i see any results.

Any help will be greatly appreciated

Becca :) x

Did the vet do a culture to see if it was bacteria and what kind?
Also what are the temps in the tank?

She should have done the culture first. It could be fungal and antibiotics can make it worst or the antibiotics can lead to fungal as a result of the antibiotic. It can be bacterial but reps will not respond to treatment well if they are not warm enough.
The temps are too cold and is probably what caused it in the first place.

Bring the warm side up to about 34c. cool side 25c.
It's important they are kept warm even at night while ill and on medication. Nutritional support is also important.

Well the temps were higher in my main viv and my other 2 leos seem fine so i doubt it was cold, but i will increase the temps in her hospital tank, also the vet says that tamodine treats bacterial and fungal...

Thanks for your replys

It can be related to stress or improper nutrition. You might want to house her seperately incase the other leos are causing her stress.

Well hope she gets better soon:)

Thanks, i hope she does too!

I feed her mainly mealworms and crickets and she has the occasional treat of waxworms. She has calcium and nutrobal which i dust her food with and she has a bowl of calcium inside the viv.

I hope its not her tankmates causing her stress, the male was bought with her and they have always been together and the other female is her daughter, born in april, so i wouldnt think she would do anything being so young

Her nutrition does not sound bad so I would keep an eye to see if he is stressing her out. Hard to tell sometimes, things might happen when your not around.

A male housed with a female can very much cause stress, the male will harass her. Also you should not house a male and female unless you want mating to happen, which could very likely end up killing the younger female you have.

Any gecko with an issue should be housed alone. Infections can spread just like parasites, all it takes is a minor injury that you may not even see. The male doesn't care how old they younger female is, when she ovulates, he'll be on her. And she may not be mature enough or up to size.
