I'm trying to calculate the measurements for a mice/rat breeder rack that I'm working on and I can't remember what the "true" measurements of a 1"x1" and 2"x2" are. I think they are 3/4" x 3/4" and 1 3/4" x 1 3/4" but I wanted to make sure before I go and buy all the wood and have it precut for me and have these tubs not fit. :main_no: My neighbor is out of town and God knows Ken knows nothing about handy man things. lol

outta my freakin mind
Actually, 1x material is 3/4 of an inch thick and the width of the material has a 1/2 inch subtracted from it. So a 1 x 6 is actually 3/4 x 5 1/2.

2 x material has 1/2 inch subtracted from both dimensions.
A 2 x 2 inch board is actually 1 1/2 x 1 1/2.
A 2 x 4 is actually 1 1/2 inches thick and 3 1/2 inches wide. :main_thumbsup:

Hope that makes sense.

Thank you Jeremy!! I knew you'd come through.

I did manage to find out that it was only 1 1/2 x 1 1/2 before I went to get the wood. However I don't have all the tools I need to complete the job and my neighbor is out of town till Monday. I'll be sure to post pics as soon as I get it complete.

That's okay. I put both your names figuring one of you would catch it and help me out!! Well I've been busy and so has my neighbor so it's still partially put together. I need to complete it tomorrow so I'll be making sure we find time tonight.

OHHH and for the future. depending on where you buy wood from.... the wood can be in whole messurments. so if you go t oa lumber yard (around me i have 84 lumber, moyers lumber, etc..) if i get a 2x4, it messures 2x4 compaired to homedepot or lowes. 1/5 X 3/5

Well that's nice to know, but I haven't seen an 84 Lumber in ummmmm 20+ years!! LOL They don't have them here, but there was one our house in MI, but it's been closed fora very long time. I'm off to find what I need or get my neighbor's butt over here to cut these last pieces for me.
