Fortunately for me my cats find the cricket box a lot more interesting than the gecko's. I've only had one incident where the cat knocked over the box and the lid popped but fortunately there were only about 15 crickets in there. Thought I got all of them until i started hearing chirping behind my fridge and a bunch of other places I couldn't reach.

The biggest ooopsie though goes to the fiance. I had ordered 500 super worms online and it was delivered to my door. She got home before I did and heard the scratching sounds in the box and thought it would be cute to show the cats the worms.

What she didn't realize was that with super worms unlike crickets they are not packaged in their own individual box or container within the shipping box. They are just dumped in there along with a few pieces of newspaper/egg cartons.

She also didnt realize how quick super worms could be. End result, 500 super worms roaming free in the apartment.

By the time I got home she had collected about 200. The cats formed a hunting party and probably rounded up about 30 but the rest where M.I.A.

I was able to find about 50 more than gave up trying to salvage them and ended up taking it to the vacuum cleaner in all the hard to reach places. I have no idea if I got all of them (most likely not).

This was about 10 days ago. My fiance is freaking out because she is afraid that the ones we missed are probably gonna turn into beetles and then reproduce and infest the apartment.

That would just suck... but for the time being no beetles.

Anyways, She opens the box, see's the news paper on top and doesnt think much of it. Lifts up the newspaper and reaches her hand in only to find a bunch of super worms loose in the box. She ends up freaking out and tosses the box.

Your lucky, my cats so far are responsible for the deaths of 3 leos and one crestie. They knocked over a 20L tank that had my 3 girls and decided to "play" with 2 of them, the third just never recovered from the trauma of the whole thing and died a few days later. A crestie that I had gotten for my birthday was also prey for them. I found out the hard way that the top of the exo-terra tanks do not hold up at all to cats and their weight. I am thinking they sat on it and it gave and the crestie got out and the rest is history. I have figured that regular metal screen tops are the best for the tanks and tight locking clips keep the cats from figuring out anything. Also I did have to put down the more aggressive hunter of the cat pair because he decided to lay into my daughter badly. Hate to say it, but it's been ALOT more peaceful in this house since he's been gone. My other cat just likes to stare at everything. Hopefully it will stay that way.

If my cat would have killed any of my geckos, she would have been gone much sooner. I had to give her away a few months ago because she would bother the geckos too much and I HATED her sneakiness.

LOL....well...I bet the cat had fun with those crickets!

...i would NEVER get rid of my cat for acting like a cat... if my cat managed to kill any other pets I would recognize that it was MY fault and not hers. There are easy ways to prevent that...i.e. don't let the cat anywhere near the reptile cages...and keep the cages secure. Same goes with any pets that wouldn't normally be "friendly" with eachother. It's one thing to get rid of a pet for attacking your child...those interactions are extremely hard to humanely limit...but it is easy to limit interactions between caged pets and cats/dogs.

Wow sorry to hear that!! I don't have a cat (allergic), but if that ever happened to me, I would have freaked out just because I wouldn't want crickets running free around the house. I can't imagine what I'd do with that. Hopefully none of the crickets got too far away!

Our Cat is 16 years old and she won't even chase a mouse like a normal cat likewise go after a cricket or a gecko. I swear I think that she thinks hunting is beneth her, LOL. We got her when she was 2 because the house that we rented at the time had mice and we wanted a cat to help out ( along with traps and poision and anything else to get rid of them) I caught her sitting on the table watching the nasty little things scurry around the room. The only way that she will catch anything is if it crawls into her mouth!

Before our cat died we had a 10g tank full of crickets. She was interested. We let her in. She went insane as they jumped all over her and never went near them again.

I know cats will always be cats and will always be curious and want a closer look of whats moving around in that tank or tub. I gave my cat away not only because she almost knocked one of my hatchling's container down 2-3 times.... mostly because she was a stray cat that I brought into the home but she was much too wild and caused destruction of numerous things. Just wanted to clarify that because I know cats will always be cats, lol.
