As the title sais, my crested geko is not able to walk up the glass in his vivarium, I have seen him try and even though he can walk up the exo terra rock background and everything else fine, the glass seems to be a strugle. I'm guessing this is because it is probably too greasy or something for him to walk up, is this the case? And if it is, what would be the best way and what with to clean it?
Thanks in advvance, oh and good news for those who have read my previous threads, he's finaly eating, there are feces and I witnessed him leap on a cricket and devoir it, thanks again.

mine scurry up the glass.. and down the glass.
make sure there's not stuck shed on the toes, that can pretty much end their glass-walking days. how often do youu mist the cage? is there a humid hide too?

good luck,
rob

often stuck shed or dried CGD is the reason for this, try giving your gecko a sauna daily for the next few days it will loosen any stuck shed or dried crested gecko diet.

Whats a sauna you ask? Take a deli container with warm (we are talking like luke warm, not hot) moist paper towel and let the gecko sit in there for about 5-10 minutes. On the plus side of saunas, they also fire up the gecko which is great for if your an avid picture taker like myself!

ElapidSVT, what do oyu mean "end their glass-walking days", end it as in permanantly, or end it until you give them a sauna like darkridder said, oh and darkridder, i gave my crested gecko a sauna, 1st of all he didnt seem keen on staying in it and even after he was in it for a totaal of about 5 minutes, (this was his 3rd sauna) he was able to stick to glass, but only slightly, he would begin to slide down the glass and end up falling off, what should i do?
many thanks as always ;)

he means because of shed stuck on the toes, or dried crested gecko diet on them, they can no longer climb the glass surfaces, whihc if it stays on there for too long it can cut circulation to the toes and the toes can die off, which is why you need to sauna them. Are you putting a lid over the top of the container for the sauna? Normally I use small deli cups, we are talking like 8oz deli containers with a lid on it so it doesnt give them much room to get off of the moist paper towel. But if you just keep continuing to do it, and you can even try using a wet q-tip on the bottom of the feet, it will come off.

youre quite welcome :)

It is actually pretty comon with the species as they do like to walk through their food and shed does easily get stuck around their toes. So now you know for future reference if it looks like you have little CGD foot prints everywhere, or some ties with shed on them, saunas will do the trick!

how often do you recommend giving them a sauna? is there a general rule of thumb?

not really. If they are having a rough time shedding, if you notice they have been walking through their food, or if it just comes down to not being able to climb glass. Otherwise they dont really need them because you should alreayd be misting them 2 times a day.
