My order of 100 small Dubias just came in.
I put them in a spare 10g glass tank with screen lid, one 18piece egg carton bottom, cut in half, insect chow from Rainbow Mealworms, a few carrot slices, and Flukers quencher, those yellow water gels. I didn't know about the water crystals when I bought it.

Good? :)

Does the Dubia setup look okay? The temperature in the tank is roughly 75 degrees, is that okay? Not looking to breed them. :)
And how in the world do I get the roaches out of the crumbled paper they came in?

Yeah, I tried that. The paper is really thick, and really crumbled, and the roaches are all over it, everywhere. If I move the paper too fast or unfold it too fast, it flings roaches all across the room. Not good. :) I tried just uncrumbling it a little, but the little buggers really hold on, I had trouble getting enough off to feed the geckos. The paper is also a lot bigger than the tank. *sigh*.

Glad the setup is okay. :)

When I need to remove roaches from paper, I just work in sections. Unfold it a bit, gently cut/tear that section off, then shake or brush the roaches off it. It helps if you put it against the top of the egg cartons and chase them down onto them, as they want to escape you.

You need to be brave, as you're apt to get one climbing on your hand, but as long as you don't shake too hard or fling stuff about, it will work.

Thanks indyana, that's exactly what I ended up doing. And the same procedure when the mealworm order came in. I'm not scared of the Dubias, they're just really darn fast. :) Some of the mealworms escaped, since their container is smaller. But they're not quite a fast, plus they were still a bit sleepy from being cold, and my son helped me catch them.

I've had a few of the buggers escape when they do a good job hiding in a crevice of egg crate or on the underside of a hide I remove while cleaning.... No biggie. I've found a couple of them, all thin and weak from no food or water. I toss them in the roach bin and they're fine the next day lol
