My First Accidental Egg

Sorry I can't put any pictures up since I don't have access to a digital camera ATM, but thought I would tell everyone that I got my first egg ever the other day and I wasn't even expecting any...in fact that particular female I knew had been with a male before I got her and I had checked her a bunch of times for eggs and never saw any. So I was cleaning cages Sunday and in the corner of the cage there was this weird white thing. I thought it was some sort of weird item she had puked up and that she was deathly ill, then I realized...it's an egg! I know the it's likely bad for a number of reasons, but since some on here have had freak show hatchings from eggs that should otherwise have gone bad, I put it in some vermiculite, moisture, and got some heat to it ASAP. I didn't set up my incubator since if the egg might turn out good it needed heat fast. I'm keeping an eye on it. I've been told that the only sure fire way to tell if it goes bad is if it molds. So far it hasn't (then again it's been one day). Keep an eye on the moisture. It did deflate a little, but it still is retaining shape and hasn't caved in completely, so who knows.
I don't have my hopes up or anything though. I know that it's very slim that the egg will survive. Regardless, I'm kind of feeling like a father who just found out his daughter is pregnant...I mean, I've been checking that girl a couple times a week and never once saw anything that looked like an egg...ever. Apparently I'm blind, or she is a super egg maker and can shoot them out in a matter of days lol.

Anywho, just thought I'd let you all know lol.

Update:

Just thought I would let all of you know that the egg started to rot. It turned yellow over the last day or so. So, yeah, guess it's bad. But that's okay. It likely wasn't going to turn out anyway due to the various circumstances surrounding its discovery.
Regardless, I may get more eggs in a couple weeks (forget how long between lays...), and I will be more prepared and have my incubator ready to go unlike this time. I think part of the reason the egg was no good is it didn't have enough warmth to it for probably a whole day before I found it. Still, I'm excited that I had an egg at all lol.

But in better news...I got into the University of California, Irvine. Just waiting on two more notices from the other colleges I applied to before I make my decision though.

Anywho!
