Hi guys! i'm new and need some help. My gecko bananas is about 2 years old, he is usually pretty good about eating but recently it's a hassle. He stopped eating store bought bugs entirely, even wax worms as a treat. He will sniff them, and even toy with them but he won't eat them. His tail was getting so skinny that as a last resort I went out caught some tiny crickets (from a place that i am absolutely sure is herbicide and pesticide free) and put them in his tank. He immediately ate all of them. Then i tried putting another store bought cricket in there and he ignored it. I put another wild cricket in and it was gone in a second. I know wild caught insects can be harmful, but it's the only thing he'll eat! and it can't be a health issue, otherwise he'd ignore food in general right? anybody been through this or have any advice? Should i just keep feeding him the wild crickets? Right now its ok, but what happens in the winter when there's no more crickets? Thanks, sorry for the long post.

P.S ( it can't be the size because i tried every size of store cricket and he just ignores it, didn't take to meal worms.)

Hi Bananasowner,

Now the most important part is to nurse the health of your Leo back to normal.

I suggest you gut load the insects you're going to feed with carrots/kale/natural yogurt and dust them with Muti-Vitamins powder before you throw them in the tank/enclosure.

Don't worry your leo will not know about it.

I will enclosed some picture product which i used for my Leo.

As you can see this is the tank which i keep my crickets and gut load them with carrots and some muti-vitamin power 3hrs before feeding it to my Leo.

Pumpkin is also one of my fav Gut Load item which you can give it a try

Do you have a picture of your gecko? In my experience the main two reasons geckos stop eating (as long as they're otherwise healthy) is that they are overweight and aren't hungry or that its breeding season and they're ovulating females. In winter lots of folks post about geckos not eating as well since they go off food when temps in the house fall a bit. Not sure if this is what's going on with your guy but its a thought.
