My gecko is looking bad

Ive attatched pictures, we just put him back on his regular light to see if thats the problem. One of his eyes seems sealed shut and his skin is peeling but not like normal, hes also been acting weakly. Please help!

Yes he is on sand but I took the pic of him on my desk. I have soaked him multiple times. And we will be soon

Have you been using a UV light? Or a heat rock? Looks like either very bad UV damage or burns.

Correct me if I'm seeing this wrong, but that looks like severe skin damage. That shiny bit on its back looks like the skin has peeled away and left exposed tissue.

Vet ASAP, or this animal will likely die slowly and painfully.

You should remove the sand ASAP also because it is getting into his wounds and likely making his eye worse/causing an infection.

The only thing about the sand is he has a friend with him (female also leopard gecko) and I dont want to stress her out as Ive put them back on their original light

What does a second gecko living with him have to do with sand?

1) Separate the two geckos
2) remove the sand and replace with sterile, wet paper towels
3) Remove lights. Are you using a UV light?
4) Take the gecko to the vet or it will die suffering

Can you explain anything about how the gecko got like this? UV light, heat rock, fighting with the other gecko... Are you sure the other gecko is not also a male? Is the other gecko okay?

The other gecko seems to be fine but his peeling was relatively slow before I put back our old none UV light, theyve been living together for there entire lives (4 years so far). Besides over worms they havent ever fought. My dad thinks it might have been UV. But we switched him back to his old light tonight. He started acting weird with his eye at first so I was weirded out and then we got back from seattle and he looked like that

(UPDATE: My dad confirmed it was a UV light, our little friend will be going to the vet tommorow after school)

Good luck. It does look like UV damage to me (like a very bad sunburn! Blistery and peely and so very painful). Leopard geckos are very susceptible to UV burns, as well as eye damage from them.

I would highly recommend never using a light again, but getting an under tank heater instead.

Unfrotunatley he was put down while I was at school. It was supposedly something he ate and his liver failed. RIP

Sorry to hear that....you can purchase a very low watt 25w bulb (blacklight or red 'nocturnal' bulb) and place it a considerable distance above the tank for night viewing....just make sure it is high enough....under-the tank heater.....make a hot side and a cool side...put your humid-hide on the warm side, but not right on top of the heating pad....put your water on the cool side and good-to-go....I use sand and they really give me a hard time about it....I still have nice healthy "fat" tangerine's that I've been breeding for years....take care!

On the subject of red and black lights, I would not recommend their usage. It turns out that leopard geckos see more colors than we do, and they can certainly see those red and black lights. This will disrupt their circadian rhythm, as their eyes are extremely sensitive to light so that they can see well at night by the light of the moon.

I never leave the light on at night anyways. Also should I be worried that my other gecko now kinda seems depressed?

Geckos don't bond to each other really, if that's what you're worried about. Does it seem sick? Showing any of the same symptoms as the other one?

Nope, shes just seemed a little down to me. Not like sick or anything. Idk theyve been together for 4 years but by some means I beieve they connected

Besides that the vet said she looked fine as we took them both in incase she had what he had. So maybe Im just misinterpreting how she is.
