I added a new guy/gal about 10 days ago. I purchased Ang (named by my grandson; after the animated TV series Airbender?). I picked Ang up from PetSmart; I know, I know, most of you don't like PetSmart or PetCo. I'm not sure how old the little fella is, but he weighs 4 grams. I thought he/she was too cute to pass up. I'm not sure how some of you get such great pictures or what type of camera you are using; but these pictures don't do the color justice.

Anyway, enjoy. I think Ang is very cute.

Nice tangerine, Its hard to pass them up sometimes...that darn smile! Feed em well, go to the vet for a poop check and he should plump right up!

Ok, I don't want to be the one to burst your bubble but that is not a healthy leo, his/her tail is way way way to thin.

I am actually stunned that no one has said anything and has just been saying oh cute and nice leo but maybe get a fecal.

Granted they can be hard to pass up BUT get a fecal done, that leo looks like from the photos that it is about 5-6". A newborn is from 2 - 3" and weighs about 3 grams on average at BIRTH.

At 4 grams he/she is on a thin stand of living IF I am correct about length and even if I am not at 4 grams it should be a baby, not a long thin skinny shell of a leo.

I don't mean to be harsh but come on guys, help a newbie with a leo, don't tell them how great it is so that they think they got a great buy to have it die later because it was emaciated to begin with and they never knew because no one told them.

Take the leo to the vet and spend about $150 to get him all checked out and see why he is skin and bones, that is no much cheaper than buying form a reputable breeder for say $80-$150 shipped for a tangerine without it being skin and bones and need immediate vet care.

Actually Wendy you can tell by the head shape and color development that it is still pretty young. Most of my babies don't start getting fatter tails until around 15 to 20 grams. However they still need to get a fecal done and quarentine.

Exactly, it is very young BUT the tail is skin and bones, the tail is normally still in proportion to the body even before they plump up, not super thin. Even the body on that poor thing is so thin its sad. They do go through awkard stages where the body is fat and the tail not quite, but Ive never seen a HEALTHY leo be skin and bones body and tail that was healthy.

It actually doesn't look too horrible to me, considering it's origins. I agree with quarantine and a fecal, but with good care and a bunch of mealworms, it looks like it could do just fine. good luck with it! post updates please!

Looking again - he/she is a little skinny even for its age but nothing some TLC won't take care of! :)
Of course I'm new to all of this still to having only been involved with Leopard Geckos for a year now.

But for comparison, here's my pet store tang that I got 3 weeks ago at around the same age (?). But his tail was also skinnier when I first got him. And he's done awesome with eating and plumping right up....

When I first got him 3-4 weeks ago:
