My LG Marty took a couple of nasty spills.

Hey Everybody. My title pretty much says it all. I just want to get some advice and ease my mind alittle bit.

2 days ago, I cleaned my LG Marty's vivarium. I put him in the bathtub with the drain plug in the drain and put a tiny bit of water in. I deconstructed his cage and got it all cleaned up, threw his old burrow hide out and replaced it with a brand new one. I got everything back in order and went and got him out of the tub. I walked back into my room and over to his cage and he jumped out of my hand onto the floor and had a pretty nasty landing. But I checked him over and he was fine. So I sighed in relief. Well I got him over to his cage and he got down off my hand and was stretching his legs alittle. Well all of a sudden he got spooked about something and ran into the side of his cage at full force. He dislocated his hips, But he popped them back into place. But after he knocked the wind out of himself, I noticed his tail was waving, and shaking uncontrollably, like he couldnt control it. So I knealed there and watched for a second figuring he was going to drop his tail. But he didnt. This is where my concern comes in. Ive handled him like once or twice since the accident and I noticed he FREAKS out if you even so much as gently touch his tail or hips. It's not a "Hey I dont like that!" kind of motion he's making when you touch his tail or hips its a "Ouch! Dont touch that, It really hurts!" kind of movement. Could he have damaged his tail internally?

I'm thinking the same thing as Roger, try to get him to walk. I don't think the running away and wagging his tail is a big thing to make it 'more' proven. My Nova I have scared and she ran away and wagged her tail, and she wasn't hurt in any way.

I hope your guy is ok.

I was able to see his bones were out of place. But he was able to get them back into place. He's walking fine. He just seems really antsy and upset if you touch anywhere near his hips and or tail. He's eating fine and is moving like nothing ever happened. Am I just overreacting about an issue that really isnt as serious as it seems? You wont hurt my feelings if you tell me im overreacting.

There's always going to be some degree of pain from any injury whether or not we can see external damage. If you could visibly see his bones were out of place and he is sensitive there I would say it's a bit tender, altho my leo really doesn't like it when you touch the base of his tail or hips either, he'll try to boogie away even if beign held. If he seems to be walking normally and there is no visible swelling or injury I'd take the cautious wait and see approach. Sometimes it can help to make their tank a little warmer during their recovery period. If something changes over the next couple days, gait is off, not eating, excessive hiding in one spot, or signs of stress then you might want to consider having him seen by a vet. Make sure you're supplimenting him properly with a good multi vit and calcium suppliment to aide in any recovery he might have going on.

My boy jumped off my roommate and hit the floor. I thought he was dead :C then I had him sitting on me and she put her head on him. He's fine but he was tail wagging and freaking out too. Maybe that's just normal for them when they get scared.

When something like that happens its often more of a screaming shock than anything else, to the gecko and us humans. It's natural he would be freaked out and sore. Give him a few days of total peace (no handling!) to recover from the mishap. Just drop his food in and let him be. If you catch yourself looking at him too much it will make him nervous and its a good idea to put a sheet or blanket over his tank.

I would use a small box to keep him in during a big cage clean rather than a big cold tub.
