My loss

My 7 year old leopard geck (Monte) just died recently and I don't know what caused it. He was sick and we gave him some anti biotics (no idea what they were called) reccommended from the vet and some meat based baby food also recommended by a vet but it wasnt helping at all so we stopped and he is gone. I got him for my 7th birthday. And I know I was too young to take care of it then but I was doing all that I could and he lived a good life. He loved to be handled and had never bit me. Does anyone know what might have caused his death?

Sorry for your loss. I don't think I can be of too much help...but I'm sure some others will be able to once they see your post.

Oh noooo... I'm so sorry you lost Monte, your gecko buddy for the past 7 years. I'm glad you took him to the vet, but very sorry he didn't make it. I know how much you must have loved him, and how much you will miss him.

did the vet perform a fecal float? Most deaths like this are caused by internal parasite loads. Ive rescued quite a few sick leos, and parasites were always the cause. Sorry about your loss :(

I'm so sorry for your loss. If you can tell us how you cared for your gecko we may be able to guess what might have happened. What kind of substrate was he kept on? what temps did you keep his enclosure? Diet? Daniel is right, parasites are a common problem in reptiles and may have played a part in your geckos death.

i know what you're going through.. i lost my male a month ago to gout ( a condition where they produce too much uric acid and their muscles and ligaments become like rocks) so we had to put him to sleep.

Then last week his mate who was pregnant with his offspring died of depression, egg binding, and sickness.

Death is a part of the natural circle of life and although sad somtimes it's just a being's time and maybe you can feel better knowing that they are at peace and you gave them the best time of their lives.

Good luck and take care.
Mike
