ON mother's day we went to the Grand Rapids Reptile and Exotic show. There wasn't that much compared to other shows. I happen to spot a few blue tongue skinks around the place, of which I have been wanting to get one. Of course it was mothers day so I wasn't going to ask( to much ;) ) and I held two of the three there. Well, my mom decided to ask the price of one of them that was really friendly. (Although he bit me twice only to find out later he was hungry for he hasn't bit me since) Needless to say in the end my mom paid $60 and we went home with a new friend for me. All I got her was a homemade card though... :(

Anyway now I'm are wondering. What is Romeo? Cause I know there is different kinds of BTS like Northern, Eastern, Indonesian, etc. I've compared him to them all, but I just can't figure it out. He is 13 inches so maybe you can't tell until he is bigger? Either way, he is still nice and I'm not going to breed him. (I keep calling him a he but really no one knows)

Also does he seem somewhat skinny? I can kinda see the hipbones and the people we got him from said they fed him only lettuce and cat food. I printed a list of food that he can have and I think he likes the variety. I also found he really likes pineapple.

Anyhow sorry for the questions and longness of these words so here are a few pictures of him. We already changed the bedding but at the time we took the pictures we didn't have anything else but papertowel.

After he ate all of his yummy food.

Just showing off why they call him a blue tongue skink

He likes to strike poses. Actually more like sit there and stare at the camera.

I love my mom.
and Romeo.
and all of the other reptiles.
oh and cat.

Edit: I forgot to add he did have some injuries but they are all almost healed. I think he might have been with another BTS at one piont in time. He doesn't seem bothered with them but I still keep an eye.

He looks like an Irian Jaya to me. Take a look at Bluetongueskinks.net it has everything you need to know about them and has a complete food chart for them on their caresheet. Also on the left side of the home page it shows many species of BTS that you can compare to. Its a really great site for all BTS keepers. There is also a forum there too. Hope this helps.

It is a meruake. You can tell from the length of the tail, the stripe on the neck, the banding, the color, and he looks like mine. Make sure to take him to a vet because he is probably a wild caught. Only one person has ever succesfully bred them in the world. But their are people out there right now (like me) that are or are going to soon breed them.

just make sure that you are supporting him/her correctly when picking up. my male BTS is 3 years old, has never bitten anyone, and he still sometimes hisses when i pick him up, but the hissing will lessen the more he gets used to being handled by you. if he continually hisses while you are holding him, its best to leave him be for a while and try again later. nice looking BTS by the way. Here's a pic of Jabba, my male. think he's a IJ/Merauke cross possibly

I do support. Mostly he just hisses when you pet him. It freaks out my mom a little bit... Trying to get her to trust my BTS. He seems to tolerate handling more than petting. Thanks for the reply.

Oh and love your BTS, I love them all though.
