Was thinking i would post some new pictures of my leos :)

the collection expanded the other day with 3 more leos that i went and saved from some crazy mom with 3 kids..

The story goes like this! Some mom with 3 kids ten years ago bought 3 geckos and now the kids had grown up and none wanted to take care of these poor guys! so they had made an advert saying they was giving them away for free everything included, the geckos is 10 years old and they had lived with this family the whole time. So i decided to go and pick them up and take care of them as long as they live :)

So i brought home this new terrarium and the geckos and everything else that came with it and made some space for them at my house. The old owners had a full glass terrarium with sand as substrate, they had no basking spot and not moist-hide and they only had a limited number of caves and hides.

So i decided to move them into one of my empty cages and house them there for the time being.

so they are 10year old now, anyone know how long they can live?

Here is some pictures of the new fellas!

Here they are all togheter.

The glass terrarium is a bit bigger yes, i'm not sure what to do really.. The one i moved them to is big enough i belive but the old one they had is slightly bigger in crawling area...
Problem is i dont really have any space for that full-glass one.

Reading this at work so I can't see the pics, but I can answer your question about age. Average pet is 12-15 yrs. With great care and good genes they can live over 20.

Saved from what?

As far as I can tell, you got three free healthy looking geckos, with a large enclosure and a UTH. You have shoved them in a tiny enclosure with a basking bulb and toe-eating repti-carpet. So tell me Kal-El, what exactly did you save them from?

Well about the size difference the one they live in now is only 0.1cm2 smaller so that shouldnt be a problem. about the basking bulb i only use to regulate the warmth inside as i live in a rather cold apartment so i turn it on a few mins now and then to keep the temp at level also if you have any other sugestions towards not using repti-carpets i would love to hear! I myself have used tiles before and thought of repti-carpet now as i dont like the paper-towels or sand.

Uh, he saved them from a family that didnt care for the geckos anymore, and could have gone to a worse home? Sheesh.

Exactly.. when i called her about the geckos she didn't ask me anything about me and if i had any experience about reptiles from before so she clearly didn't care who she gave them to as long as she got em out..

Also when i got there she didn't know anything about them really.. she didn't even know how to open the terrarium or that you could take out the front slide-glass.. Also they said they never had handle them since one of them once lost his tail and they where afraid so the had never taken them out the terrarium and when they gave them food they had just dumped the crickets and didn't care who ate what and how much..

So i think i kinda saved them in some point.. I'm not an expert but i care for animals and i think they will have a nice stay here their last years.

On a a side note, when it came to payment she had said when i called her that she only wanted to get paid for the coast of the add an nothing more.

On this site the add coasts 50sek that's roughly 8$usd so she clearly didn't value them at all..

and well i dint have a 50 sek bill so i offered her a 100 sek one (~16$USD) and at first she didn't want to accept it and started to look for change to pay me back, i just told her to keep it and give the extra 50sek to her little kid then i left.

Oh come on Mr Grouchy Man...just because someone pissed in your corn flakes doesn't mean you can piss in theirs! ;) :main_laugh:

Nice Viv! definitly would check sex of those leo's make sure they aren't all males...or a mixture of the two..otherwise your gonna need more Vivs!! :p

Oh yea one more thing...maybe change out that basking light for a infared...gives the needed extra ambient heat for those of us with cold apartments...but doesn't BLAST the eyes of your little leos!

Yeah check the sexes, I see a scab/scar on the nose of fella #2, if they are all female then there is a possible bully.
I commend you on your "save", pay no mind to neg comments, this is a very positve move you have made on the geckos behalf. More people should step up to the plate and make room in there homes and hearts for the unwanted.......thank you.

They can live 20-30 yrs with proper care, so I've read.

WOW.... you got that giant tank for free..... and it looks in excellent condition. What a snag :)

Yea i talked with the old owner when i got em and i asked her about the sex of them, and she had no idea... she said she had gotten eggs in the tank before and that she had thrown them away.... so must be at least 1 female and 1 male + something else..

She said they had been living together for 10 years and so far (48 hours) i have seen no sign of fighting. I tried to feed them last night and they ate some crickets but there was no fighting over food tho i made sure everyone had one each so they where all happy. Also they so far have spent a lot of time together at least two of them have spent time together in one of the cave and the other one in the other one

Any way i can get them sexed? maybe you guys can help me if i try and get some pictures or maybe i can take em to the vet and have them take a look?

Thanks for all the comments :)

You dont need a male for the females to produce eggs, (just like chickens) There doesn't have to be signs of fighting for bullying to accure, it can just be a pecking order status for this to happen. For some reason that #2 does have scab/scar so please monitor them and watch for any fresh wounds.
Make sure they get more then "one each" when you feed them, they should be eating at least 5-7 crickets each on a good day.
If you go to the search you should find pictures of determining their sex.
For their tank, they need floor space instead of height space.

i keep hearing people tell me that their males have "lived together for years with no issues". it may be convenient for you, but it's stressful on the geckos. males should NEVER be housed together in my opinion and should never be housed with females unless you are prepared to properly take care of every single baby. if i were you i would seperate them until you are 100% sure of the sexes. if you can post clear vent shots of each here, we can help you identify them.

Here, i made a new post on the forums with photos uploaded, go and check if you want to help me decide their sex!

I really appreciate your help and i hope we can come up with their sex so i know how i might have to split them up!

I have been looking at their behavior and it looks alto like its a pair + one that is a outsider. The two with their original tails more or less always lies together and the other one with the tiny tails is often laying alone in one of the other caves.

Also we have done some checkups on the No.2 gecko and it does not look like a bite-wound. its a patch of old skin that is stuck to is forehead..

I don't think their old owner ever used a moist-hide or anything because their toes is almost gone and have no claws and some of their toes have large peaces of dried skin on em so i think i will have to bath them some and try and help them get it off asap´!!
