Have no idea what species ... if anyone has any ideas would appreciate the thoughts.

Got "her" for free with her 10 gal tank and all. The owner's family is moving and I guess it wasn't an option to move her too.

They called her Sheila, so I guess she'll be Sheila.

guess I should mention I have a fear of spiders :O I have petted her already, but I don't know that I'll ever handle her much. Ya shoulda seen the hubby jump when she moved away from him a little bit ago when he was checking her water sponge (I will be getting rid of that in a few days when I change out her tank - gonna let her get accustomed to the change for a bit).

Looks like a Chilean rose hair tarantula to me......and a very nice looking one, too! :) Rose hairs tend to be one of the more docile tarantulas.

Beautiful theraphosid! It's definitely a Grammostola rosea (Chilean Rose). These need to be kept a little on the drier side, and do remove the sponge. What a terrific find! Contrats!!! :main_thumbsup:

She's now on sphagnum peat moss, I took the sponge out, I did leave the rock in, but put the moss against the sides that were a little jagged. I also put in my coconut shell that my leos outgrew ... whether she uses it or not - right now she's standing on it.

The moss is really wet right now, but with our temps right now and it's not humid, it should dry out a good bit in the next couple of days.

I love her already :D I think she's beautiful -- but I got a good look at her fangs when I had her in another container to change out her tank -- I don't think I'll be handling her much! Yipe! Don't care if she is a more docile one!

While looking for care info on tarantulas I found some other beautiful species -- watch her not be the only one I get! But can't beat her for free :main_cool3:

With this species, or any of the more docile "New World" theraphosids for that matter, you have far more to worry about with the urticating hairs than the fangs. The venom isn't much to write home about, but the urticating hairs can be very uncomfortable! Good Luck with your "Rosie"! :)
