My pair + couple questions...

In june 08 I purchased 2 small geckos online, hoping they'd grow up to be a pair. Luckily they did!! Now they're both about 1 year old, the female is slightly older but not by much. I'm just wondering though, when should I start looking out for breeding behavior? I have them in a terrarium with a layer of eco-earth as a substrate, so I'm assuming if/when they lay eggs I probably won't find them. Are they even mature yet?

I'm also thinking of redoing the tank, I have a 37g aquarium (2 inches taller than this one) that I want to stand on its end and I'll mod it like those exo-terra terrariums. The plants in this haven't quite grown as I thought they would, so I think it would give the cresties more climbing places.

If you're wanting to breed it is best to use newspaper and provide a lay box. They can lay the eggs anywhere in there and you would have to dig up the whole thing every time. If you miss any and they hatch in the enclosure the adults will most likely eat them.

The female looks a bit thin for breeding but not too bad. I would seperate her and fatten her up a little more then put them together. Maybe a month of crickets twice a week and cgd the other days and she should be ready to go. Be sure they are on cgd and dusted crickets reguarly when they start breeding so there are no calcium issues.

Thanks, would i be better to redo the tank as I said, so I don't have that problem in the future (finding the eggs)? Or would it be easier to keep them in an empty tank w/paper and a box? How long should I keep them in the separate tank then?

(sorry for all the questions!)

I'll try to get a picture of one of my setups so you have an idea. They need plants to hide in and stuff to climb on but it can all be fake so you dont need substrate. Even if it's a thin layer they still usually lay them on the ground somewhere.

That's just a 66 qt tub with fake plants from Dollar General and an egg carton laying against the lay box.
