Well some of you may have seen my post about my debate between a BP and a RTB. I decided to go with the RTB. So I also decided that I was going to Build his enclosure before a bring the little guy home rather than just buy a aquarium. So here are the measurements. Its going to be 36in Long X 18in Tall X 24in Wide. Hes only 6 months old but I want something that he can grow into over the next 1 1/2- 2 years. I do have a few questions though before I get started.

1. On the front I want to do a sliding glass door with a key lock. Where can I get one of these from? I have seen them on other people's enclosures.

2. I am going to be using 3 inch round vents on both sides of his enclosure for good ventilation. I know they should be put in from the inside so he cant push them out as he gets bigger. I was thinking of putting one on the hot side and one on the cool side both towards the top. Is this good or should i put one of them towards the bottom and if so which side should the one closer to the bottom be hot or cool?

All suggestions will be greatly appreciated. I will post up some pics when its done. Thanks

I got mine from Lowes. They were with all the cabinet hardware.

If you are going to use sliding doors, you need to get tempered glass instead of plain plate glass. Also, the way most sliding tracks work, the glass pushes up into the top track at an angle and merely rests on the bottom track- not very secure at all for a snake that wants out! There are ways to design around this, but a bit more involved...

I use sliding glass doors with plastic tracks and I house 8' 20-30lb boas in them and have never had a problem with them pushing the glass out.And yes,use tempered glass. An 8' boa will break the glass if it isn't tempered! They can strike quite hard...lol
