I have asked question after question here and read a lot of great info here. I wanted to take a moment and share my set up so far.

The future home of my new leo,

I asked a few questions on humid hides and many many searches here on the forum. This is what I came up with. It's a 4.5" terracotta pot that I used my dremel to make the opening. I then placed it in the oven at 225 degrees for an hour to be sure it was sterilized and then hot glued the rocks on the top to cover the small drain hole. here is a close up.

I just hope my future leo doesn't out grow it but if so I can just make another one just bigger.

I still need to get hides (one for the cool side and one for the warm side) , UTH and a few misc items. So far I am pleased with things.

Please let me know what you think.

Thanks for looking,
Mrgecko

I am glad your making sure everything is correct before your gecko arrives:)

My concern would be that rock falling and the glue itself. Personally I steer away from using any glue inside of the enclosures due to fumes. The heat and moisture can melt away the glue and the rock can fall.

reps4life, Thanks for the info. Perhaps I will remove the rocks that are stacked and just leave the thin flat one that covers the hole.

Do you think an adult leopard gecko will be to big for my humid hide?

*update* I removed the rocks. I just gave them a slight twist and they came rite off :stunned:. I thought they were on there good. Thanks for the tip!!

This is how I have it now,

The rock is just sitting there. Can a gecko knock that of. Is there some thing I should use to secure it?

you might have a problem keeping humidity in because the whole is so big and it's high. If he has trouble shedding maybe a rubbermaid container will work better.

I do have a potato chip dip bowl (it's from a sour cream dip) that I was going to use. That is where the lid came from that is on the bottom of the pot. Maybe I should just stick with that. It is 4.5 wide and 2.5 high.

I am also really curios if these size hides are big enough for a adult leopard gecko?

So many dissension:main_huh::main_huh::main_huh:

I would not use the rock at all. They can definately climb it and drop the rock on themselves. If it's a small hole it should be fine uncovered. It looks like there is enough space for an adult.

Ok I will remove the rock. I will just have to wait and see if its going to be to tall to hold humidity for the future gecko. I take all the advise I can get. This forum as been very helpful so far.
