My -tiny- crested geckos

Hey guys. I posted a thread earlier about how tiny my cresties are. They are still sooo tiny... And I'm hoping that they are just slow growers, and nothing is actually wrong with them. They don't poop very often, or eat the CDG very well, but eat bugs a lot (when I give them bugs, which is about every 2 weeks), but they still seem pretty darn healthy.
Sitting at 4 grams for more than a month, here they are:

Do they look at all normal for 5 months old? I understand most crested geckos grow really slow

Thanks in advance! :)

Also, how can I get then to war CGD? They barely glance at it now, even why I try to hand feed. They eat bugs readily though.. :/

I have a couple that the ONLY way they will eat the CGD is mixed with fruit. I puree fresh apples or peaches and add a little to their CGD. They eat fine this way.

I'm not sure how big your hand is relative to mine, but they look to be a decent size. I wouldn't say it's anything to worry about as long as they are pooping.

Definitely invest in a gram scale though. Weight is a much better attribute to use for understanding how your geckos "measure up" to others.

Ugh, hate how I can't "edit" posts on this section of the forums. I guess I'll just quote myself.

Your hand must be a lot smaller than mine, lol. Anyway, yeah 4g is a little on the small side.

If they're not eating the cgd much, you could try a few things to get them munching (or slurping in this case :main_rolleyes: ) It is safe to add a little bit of honey to the CGD to sweeten it up. They will be more likely to eat it because it's sweeter. Once they're eating regularly, slowly cut back on the honey until eventually removing it altogether. Honey won't cause any problems except overweightness in adults sometimes.

Also, I'm not sure what type of CGD you are using. The bottled, "ready to go" stuff in stores doesn't seem to have the same success as the two-part diet you can order online (http://www.pangeareptile.com/store/two-part-gecko-diet.html). Basically just mix the base diet with a nectar (flavor). The drymixed product can be stored in a baggy, and put into a container and mixed like the bottled kind. A lot of people have success with the Rose, Cherry, and Banana flavors. Mango is pretty good too, but one of my cresties doesn't care for it. Any flavor you choose, you're likely to do better than using the store bottled kind.

Thanks for the reply. One of the geckos' is now 5 grams, just thought I'd mention. I feed Clark's crested gecko diet (unflavoured) mixed with the Repashy CGD (flavoured; banana, strawberry, etc, etc). I have heard of the honey technique, and I'm going to try it now. Thanks again!! :)

Most of my babies, meaning several hundred, will not touch CGD with any regularity until they are around 10 grams...........in the wild, babies will eat and need far far far more protein than adults, what do you think is crawling all over fruit that has hit the ground? In my growout enclosures, with 20 babies each, I have a small gatorade cap full of CGD and I dump around 50 mid size red runner roaches in each just about every night. Brand new babies or babies that are noticibly smaller or thinner are kept in a bare bottom 6 qt tub with 1 or 2 small pieces of egg crate and get fed a precise number of mealworms or red runner roaches so that I can monitor exactly if and when they have eaten. Hope this helps. (^_^)

Thanks! They are eating crested gecko diet on their own now, and somehow managed to finish a whole Gatorade bottle cap off! They seem to be going through a growth spurt now, and are eating and pooping like mad! :)
