I've got an 8 year old (well, I've had him for 8 years, no clue how old he was when I bought him from the pet store) Tokay that has always been a very good eater. Unless he was shedding or really cold, etc. He has very recently, however, almost completely stopped eating.
I've always fed him a diet of pinkie mice (I breed 'em just for him), with the occasional cricket/grasshopper/roach (he loves roaches!) from the yard; and no, we do not use poison of any kind on the yard or in the house.
He stopped eating the mice about a month to two months ago, so I started feeding him crickets. I was mowing the other day and caught some really big grasshoper thingies (the really big green-leaf-looking ones) and a big black cricket. He usually snaps these things up, heck, he can usually see me coming with it. This time he wouldn't touch them; I tried for two days. He hasn't eaten in over a week now. I'm going to pick up some more crickets from the store tomorrow and try them, but, I'm not feeling very hopeful.
He did the "geck-ohh, geck-ohh" mating call the other day (which he does very infrequently), and, when I tried to pet him today he barked at me. So he isn't sluggish (or, more than usual), but, he also generally lets me pet him (he'll even come to the door of the cage when he's shedding to get my help if he has trouble...he's really cool). He basically sits on his heating pad now, and, does an daily trip or two about his cage (HUGE cage); but, I haven't seen him on the walls in months.
I've read that they can live up to 18 years, but, average around 10. He was about three to four inches long when I bought him 8 years ago, so I don't think he was that old.
Any thoughts?
Cheers,
Joe
