I haven't really shown off my norm, Commanda, off much around here. But she sure has a story to tell and has pulled through a whole lot.
I was given her by someone my mother worked with, who had a kid who had lost interest and had stopped really taking care of her.
From what I was told, she was passed through a few other owners and had once been a classroom pet.
When I acquired her, her name was Commando, they had thought that she was a he, so the first thing I did was change her name to Commanda and thus it began.
When I got her, I didn't know something was wrong until a couple of days after I got her;
She had loss interest in food
She didn't open her eyes much
And her mouth was a bit puffy
And me being a worry wart, I took her to the vet, and was quite shocked about her condition.
She had a slight impaction that I was able to get her to pass with some soakings and massage, luckily it hadn't gotten any worse than it could.
Her eyes were infected from retained eye shed and it took forever to nip in the butt but comes back once in a while when she's stressed.
And she had a touch of mouth rot, which wasn't helping her cause much either.
It took forever but she managed to pull through with only being partially blind which she's really not affected by it seems.
And she is one of the most relaxed geckos I have ever been around. Great temperament, will sit in your hand, and arches her back like a cat when you scratch it. And she's not aggressive towards any other geckos. She accepted my Mack Snow, the only incident was when he decided he was going to try and walk across her worm bowl and ended up getting bit on the tail, for which I don't blame her for.
And then back at the end of July, Commanda and Small Fry had a close encounter of the feline kind when my kitten got overly curious and broke into my tank and harassed them and attacked them.
They both ended up loosing their tails, Commanda the most severe to where her vent was damaged and lost the tail past the last tail segment.
For a while I thought that I would loose her, she stayed in a corner of the tank, wouldn't eat, and anything I forced fed her, she would regurgitate it, and ended up loosing a couple of grams.
After a trip to the vet to check for parasites, almost a week and a half later, she showed interest in food, slowly going from baby food and after slowly reintroducing food, is now back to eating normally, her tail still a little stump and a touch of her eye infection, which was quickly taken out once more.
We're working on fattening it up, introducing supers and waxes to help build up the fat stores again. I don't have anything recent of her and her stump.
I would love to have another with her, but I believe she's well past her breeding age, but she is such a trooper and I love her half to death.
See how relaxed she is, she's just happy sitting. Because of that she gets to go to schools to show off to kids and tell them about reptiles.
Decided that the carpet was comfortable and decided it was time for a nap. And a good shot of her four big spots behind her front legs which I call 'Her Lucky Clover'.
