Well, i dont have one done yet... but I love afts ever since i got to hold my first one. Sooo i have an amazing viv ive been designing and that i should be getting started on soon. Heres the basic jist of my idea. Afts like humidity, not like tree frogs but they do like/require it. So many ppl use cocofiber or moss for their afts. But than it can lead to ingestment problems, rare but it does happen. SO... how does one use a water absorbing substrate with decreasing the risk of ingestment? I have an idea. I plan to put 2 inches of co co fiber on the bottom. Then on top i will lay slabs of stone with a little gaps in between so the moisture can rise up from the co co fiber. This will cover most of the tank, at least half, the rest will have a nice carpet of live moss/dwarf mondo grass. In the back creepin fig will cover. And nice big fern plants lemon button probibly will give the tank a congo type feel. In my personal views: ferns remind me of africa and bromilads remind me of Brazil. Also im gona scatter dead leaves to give added cover. But what will be the real focus of the whole tank will be the HUGE hollow log that will almost span the length of the tank. talking about hiding spots lol. This wil have dry moss glued on to the creveces and air plants will also be attached. Now it may seem like it would be alot of maintainance to clean such a tank. Yes it might be more than normal but since there is live plants in it they will help eat the waste ect. But since afts are pretty clean i will be spot cleaning their dodo spot lol. To be honest i have never heard of anyone keeping a AFt in such an enclosure. I dont see why not. They are layed back sleepy kind of folks. A problem with lots of lizards in planted tanks is they destroy them, too active. I also will probibly hand feed them to ensure the prey dont have a jungle to hide in lol.
