OK, building a new tank and my question is. Is natural slate or vinyl slate better as a substrate?
Price might be just a little more for the natural slate because I would plan on getting it cut in 3 pieces with one of those the same width as the UTH to try to keep most of the heat in that one piece. Also a little sand under the slate to fill any air gaps and leveling. I will already be using an oversized high wattage UTH so I am hoping the temps will not be a problem. Also the slate will make the 40 gallon a lot heavier....
Will also have a thermostate.
With the vinyl just peel and stick but then there may also be hot spots and not despersed throughout the tile.
Any thing else I need to consider?
