Hi,

As allot of you may know by now i will be buying a N milli in a week or 2 and will be housing him or her in a Acrylic aquarium.

I have sorted out most of the issues i had with it. I made a custom lid out of bamboo, jute twine and fly netting and installed a 12 v pc fan(it has fly screen on both sides for safety. Its slow being only a 12 w and is just being used for extra air circulation. the battery will be kept outside the tank.

I have done a few other things and will post some pics soon.

But my question is regarding acrylic and UTH.

This has been bugging me as i know acrylic will warp when heated to a certain degree. Being that i live in Tropical Queensland Australia the day to day temps and humidity are fairly high anyway so i wont need any other type of tank heating. But will still need a UTH for belly heat. how much heat can the tank take before warping? will a number of tiny holes drilled in the tank floor where the UTH will be help prevent warping?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

I will eventually buy a larger glass Terrarium( probably not for a couple of months, maybe longer depending on how things go) but this will have to do for now. Not sure if posting links is allowed. if not i will remove them but here is a link the the UTH i will be getting http://www.ultimatereptiles.com.au/...facturer_id=0&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=42

I will also be getting a dual location digital thermometer to keep an eye on temps on both sides of the tank . First priority is getting it set up and making sure is safe in every way possible. Thanks-

I can't see a UTH warping acrylic at the temps you need to use. A good belly temp is 90-95 which I'm sure you get as an air temperature in Australia quite regularly. It should be fine in my opinion.

Yes, the UTH can warp an acrylic tank. I have an acrylic aquarium and the top warped just from the heat of a single fluorescent light fixture that was sitting on top.

Also, a lot of UTH's specifically state on the box that they are meant to be used with glass terrariums only. I have seen one or two on-line that were meant to be used with acrylic tanks so maybe try and find one of those.

Thanks for the replies. I would look around for a UTH that is meant for acrylic tanks but there is only 2 big reptile suppliers here(that i know of) Ill think of something.
