Okay. We bought a gecko a while back that was marketed as a F jungle MS. Got her here, she was gorgeous and we loved her. Well, we were trying to make our detailed plans for the next breeding season and we decided to re check ALL the genetics for all of the leos that we had either recently purchased or adopted from various sources. When we looked up the parents to this gecko in particular, we became a little worried. She (which we have recently found out is, in fact, a male) was labeled as a F jungle MS. Her mother was labeled as a MS and the father was labeled as a MS enigma, het bell. Well we looked up on the breeder page (again, just to be sure we got ALL possible genetics) and the mother was labeled as a Hypermelanistic MS 100% het Tremper and the father was listed as a MS enigma 66% het Bell!! My heart sank. A Tremper and a Bell bred together! *urgh* Okay, so my question is this: Is there a chance that the bell can be bred out? or are we just screwed on the albino front as far as this particular gecko is concerned? What can she be used for?

She CAN be used for what ever you like. Any trait can be bred out. Just proving that the gene is bred out causes even more controversy. Odds are the bell has already been bred out but to prove that you would have to breed it to a bell. In this case, you would be breeding a 66% poss het tremper to a bell which would produce geckos in the same situation you are in now.

Most will probably tell you are screwed for every front and would suggest not breeding this gecko at all.

If its a tremper/bell cross she/he can be used as a nice pet. Morphology should always be triple checked to avoid potential disaster of crossing the albino strains (not saying this is your fault as you explain it, it sounds like it came like this from the original breeder correct or am I confused there?). It would be unethical as someone that hopes to establish themselves as a reputable breeder to continue using her/him in a breeding program. Just enjoy her as the beautiful pet she/he is.

I was thinking the same thing, pet only. Which doesn't really bother me all that much, cuz as I said, HE's gorgeous. (lol) And yes, it did come from the original breeder. The mother was originally not listed as a 100% het Tremeper so we were going to just put her with some of our bells, or with some resulting from our bell projects that we have planned. Then we saw that and we were like omg, we're screwed. (lol)

Yea. I have read it either way. Most say that you're screwed if you get into that sort of situation, others say that it can be bred out but it takes forever and is nearly impossible to prove, that is if you even really bred it out at all. I'm thinking that he's just destined to be our latest pet and nothing more. :/
