Ok I just got a Gecko from someone who didnt want her anymore. This is the first time Ive had a gecko. I tried to do some online research to find out the best substrate and best lighting and all Im getting is Use sand Vs. dont use sand, use day light and night light VS. dont use light only use heating pad. right now im using a day light for day and a nigt light for night and Im using Cocanut bark as substrate.

But can some one help me to know for sure weather to use sand or not, and which type of heat sourse is best.

The internet info is just too crazy and mixed up.

1. paper towels
2. UTH under tank heater

that is all you need plus calcium powder, food and water

good luck and welcome

For substrate, just use anything that can transmit heat and that the gecko cannot ingest. Sand can cause impaction if the gecko eats it; I have used sand before with no problem, but if you don't want to worry like mad when the gecko stops eating for whatever reason, then don't use it.

They do not need day light bulb, you can use a red light for night viewing. The best source of heating is UTH; they need the belly heat to digest food.

Awesome thank you for the reassurance. There is a UTH which is now plugged in and I only now use the red bulb. She is a happy lil Gecko and has shedded 2 times in a month and a half. (hope thats normal) is it normal for them to eat the shed skin? does it provide calcium?
