Okay, I had a leopard gecko surrendered to me by a family member that said it was really sick and didn't know what to do...its about 2 years old she said, was in the smallest square cage, one that opens in the front, heading pad for a 20 to 30 gallon on the backside of the cage, on bark, no calcium powder, for a wet hide she had a dirty folded towel. Anyways she did have 2 and 1 died. She did not take it to the vet after. Anyways, when i saw this pour thing i knew its going to need a vet visit, but until he needed immediate care. He looks like a baby, that small. His tail had shed , his toes had retained shed but worst of all his eyes had huge pea sized hard balls of shed and I'm assuming green pus. His mouth looks like it was closed shut, which she said she opened it. Oh so sad.
So first thing i did was put him in moist hide, like you would do for a crested gecko, while i found a old cage that was long if i put it on the side, cleaned it put the heater on the underside, put paper towels on the bottom, put in a knew water dish, and a cap of calcium, a moist hide box and a hide log, that's it.
Then i started working on him. Used warm q tips and started to get the crap out of his eyes. It took awhile but finally saw both eyeballs. After i got it out he still wont open them I'm assuming its because , either a its been that way for along time, b it hurt. What's your thoughts on how i can help him more with his eyes????? I also removed all his shed on tail and fingers. He will still run alittle, open his mouth when mad. I know he has mbd. Im not a vet so im going to take him to one, i cant believe they didnt. I love my reptiles and would never let this go on like they did. Im suppose to give him back after and at this point dont feel comfortable giving him back. He is extremely skinny and stunted. Please help me nurse these guy back to health.. any suggestion on keeping his eyes cleared , slurry recipe please , anything that im doing wrong so far, any thing to help this guy pull through......???????
Thank you

He's gonna need antibiotics for those eyes. I would NOT give him back under ANY circumstance!!! That little baby doesn't have a voice, so YOU need to be his voice and stand up for him! Who cares if it makes them mad! Make sure he has the humid hide a dry warm hide and a dry cool hide. Repashy Calcium Plus is an awesome supplement. I would keep the cap of calcium in his enclosure and dust every insect he eats with the Repashy. For a slurry I would mash up superworms, unflavored pedialyte and the Repashy Calcium Plus. Make sure the floor temp in his dry warm hide is 90-95 for proper digestion and to help him absorb the nutrients better. Also, to reduce stress you can cover 3 sides of the cage, or put a blanket over it at night so he feels more secure.

Im am so sorry to hear about this poor little guy :( I agree with Ozy - do not give him back to someone who cant give him proper care, even if its a close family member. I cant believe she let her gecko´s health deteriorate to such a bad state! I get so sad when I hear about geckos suffering :( Please keep us updated on how the poor little guy is doing

That woman needs serious education and until then I would not give that little guy back to her. The other one died probably because of improper care.

Sometimes when my geckos seem to be having a problem with shedding I put them in the sink after I clean it out with vinegar and give them a bath. The like it and it helps soak the shed off of them. It also gets more fluids in them.

I too was having problems with one of my male geckos not eating but I have since got him to start eating. Not sure if the mixture of pedialyte and turkey baby food helped get him started again or what but that night he ate 2 giant mealworms and last night he ate 4!

Let us know how the vet visit turns out and DO NOT give that little guy back to her until she learns how to properly care for him. I got one of mine as a rescue from a lady that was totally not taking care of hers right either. She is very little for a 9 month old.

Just wanted to update, cause its always good.I renamed him to Trooper, so far hes doing so much better. He will be remaining with me! I took him to the vet right away, she gave me critical care formula, antiobitics, liguid calcium, eye drops. She also gave him a vit A shot and hydrated him. Anyways did all that for 2 weeks. He is 2yrs about, only 13 grams :( , isnt that crazy. I did have to take him back to vet for his eyes, which he is still having a hardtime with.and another vit a shot. Know he eats 15 crickets a day by hand. Off formula know. He successfully shed, with alittle help on his feet. Hes growing more and more. Hes super spunky. Anyways just wanted to give a happy ending to this aweful story. The troopster is trooping along. !!!!

I am so glad to hear he is doing better! He is lucky to have such a responsible owner like you to care for him :) I think the name suits him and hope that he will continue to get better in your care!
