Hello, I received an email from a father informing me that he purchased 2 leopard gecko's for his 7 year old for christmas. His 7 year old appears to have neglected the poor things and he has asked that I take them off his hands. I agreed to take them however they seem to be in worse shape than i had originally thought.

This little guy had its tail pulled/Ripped off. I dont know if it was from being mis-handled or from being bullied by the other gecko.

And this guy just seems to be very skinny. He is extremely friendly and very compfortable being held. But he wont eat. And his skin is very dry.

right now i have them seperated in different tanks, no sand just carpeting. And I will probably keep the little one alone for quite some time until his tail grows back.

But I would like to know what else can be done as far as getting the big guy to eat. the little one has an enourmous apetite, But I am unsure how often to feed him since he has a missing tail. I am assuing everyday? Also is there any kind of medication to assist w/ tail re-growth.

Any help on how to make these leo's better would be extremely greatful!

neosporin if the tail is still raw otherwise leave it alone and the little one should be on paper towel till its tail grows back, for the big try marcias slurry to boost its appetite

They don't look too bad, IMO. It's good that you are keeping them off sand and on carpet. I would bet that the older, larger gecko bullied the smaller one and it's tail was probably eaten.

How long have you had them? What are you feeding them, and how? It may take several days before the one will eat due to the stress of being separated and in a new enclosure. Did the previous owner tell you what they fed them? You may want to try a variety of food items to see what the gecko will eat... most will not turn down a waxworm.

I would like to once again state that my slurry recipe is designed for seriously anorexic geckos that are rehabilitating and/or on medication, and by no means will it cure anything.

Mealies, Crickets.

I just received them on saturday*yesterday* as for food I have mealies and crickets on hand for them. Like I said the little one has a HUGE appetite. the big one actually just ate 3 crickets about 15-20min ago.. Also. the big one seems to be extremely dry, I am not sure whether he is getting ready to shed or not becuase of his color..

Thanks for the info! I will keep that recipe on hand just incase. But I think everythign will turn out great. :main_thumbsup:
