Hey about 4 -5 days ago i set up a 50 lt fresh water tank and have been cycling it in order to put in a few African cichlids .

I got home today, just lit up a cigarette when i heard a rush of water and immediately thought "Oh hell "(not my actual words but i have to clean it up for the forum lol ) i dashed to my reptile room to find a massive amount of water gushing from the bottom of my hard acrylic aquarium, managed to get it out of the room and in to the bathroom and accessed the damage.

The aquarium was set up on the top of a large unit with 4 large compartments. The shelf under the aquarium had 2 gecko tanks, the shelf under that had my large sand swimmer tank, they were taking in allot of water and immediately removed them(my reptiles) to a few dry spare tanks and containers but my reptiles did get wet and may have ingested some water.

This is the part that concerns me, the water contained a water ager and a stress enzyme that also helps build up bacteria witch is important when cycling a tank before putting fish in it. Will this water harm my reptiles?

The stress zyme is made by API, just thought i would mention that.

Man what a day, ive spent hours cleaning the room and trying to dry the carpet, the water even went threw the floor and flooded my downstairs study too........... but right now the water damage is the least of my worries, im just worried about my reptiles.

regards-

Darren.

I'm assuming water ager is what we call dechlorinator in the States, used to remove chlorine and chloramine from the water? If so it is perfectly safe, and stress zyme is a nitrifying bacteria supplement, they are non-pathogenic and also will cause no harm. Your reptiles should be just fine, good luck with the cleanup.

Thanks Tony,

thats a load of my mind. Yeah the tidying up is mostly finished now, just a bit of mopping up to do in my downstairs study. Financially it is a bit of a pain as i now have to buy a big bag of sand for the reptile tanks that got flooded and will be buying a new glass Aquarium too.

How my aquarium cracked all the way across the bottom i have no idea as there was only a small amount of coral sand and a few fake plants in there. Its just one of those things i guess, there was no way of knowing that was going to happen.

Thanks again-

Darren.
