I'm in a bind and can't make up my mind. This shouldn't be as hard as it is.

I'm training to become a firefighter and a paramedic. I have two options for my fire training to get my 240 card which makes me a professional firefighter.

Option a is Columbus state community college where I'm taking my other fire classes, emt and paramedic. My financial aid will pay for it. Class is Monday-Thursday 8am-4pm and 6 or 7 Saturdays either 7-3 or 8-4. I may or may not be able to get into it because everyone and their brother wants in and they only take 20-30 students. The other thing with cscc is my turnout gear is paid for with my class. I just use the gear and my oxygen tank and mask then return it after quarter.

Option b is the Ohio fire academy. I won't be able to pay for the class it's self and rent my turnout gear both so I have to ask my grandparents for the money. It's Monday-Friday 6am-2pm. There are several evening sessions and you run a mile and a half every morning plus weight lifting. It's equally as hard as cscc.

Both have their own pros and cons and I can't decide which one I want to do. One day it's cscc and the next it's the academy.

Help!:sad3:

If you could get the money i would go for option B. The running wont be so bad, chances are yo uwont be the slowest one out there, and if it isnt timed or anything it wont be bad at all.

But if you dont have trouble getting past "everybody and their brothers" lol, then i would go for optio nA, but you will have less free time, but u get mo resleep.

Running doesn't bother me. It's like boot camp. You run as a group. I can hold my own pretty well now and I've got problems with my chest. Post surgery I will be able to do better than I am now.

It does seem like a hard choice to make. I would make a list of the pros and cons of each and see what you come up with. include everything from driving distance to cost to time invested and I'm sure you will be able to come up with the right choice. Is it possible that you could put your name in for both? and then if you don't make option A then you will have option B to fall back on?

I tried the list and I had one con for both lol. Both are hard to get into.

The driving distance is the same except for a few minutes. I thought about doing that except switched to option b then option a if I don't make it into my first class. The first class I can apply for is May 13, 2007. Summer quarter at cscc is June and the following class for the academy is July.

Here is a link to the facilities at the academy. It has a lot to offer in terms of training.

I have a meeting with the head instructor of the firefighter 1 and 2 Wednesday at 10am. I'm going to take a tour of the academy and talk about the prerequisites.
