New addition - What do you think?

I went to check out this new petstore that opened up since I needed crickets and figured that was as good an excuse as any to go there and see what it was like.
Very impressive. :main_thumbsup: Not sure if it's because it's new or if they are going to keep it this way. Animals housed individually in clean cages, temp and humidity gages in use, and WOW, what a selection of leos! And they were all labeled with what they were (not just leopard gecko as a label). I really liked the patternless rainwater albino they had. A bit pricey but it was nice looking.

Anyway, this little one caught my eye and perked up as soon as I came near the cage. Just had to buy it.:D I think it's a male but it manages to do rolls and contortions like you wouldn't believe so it's really hard to get a decent look to tell for sure but I think I saw a row of pores before the last "deathroll".

Anyway, here it is. In QT and isolation right now but soon to meet some other leos.

I see signs of MBD in both front and back legs. Other than I like the color.

Oh man. Don't say that!

Are you sure? Maybe it's the way the leo is standing. He walks fine and I didn't notice anything unusual when I looked him over.

On the front left leg, it almost looks like 3 elbows/knees whatever you call it. It almost has a rounded look when it should be more angled. The back left leg has a kinda.. twsited... hyperextended? look to it. The back right leg looks to have a bend on the lower portion. Try to get some more pics on here so we can see him in different views and see.

The legs are bowed. I can't see the other leg, but I bet it looks the same.

Now what do I do?

I can't bring him back since that would mean it would just get worse. so much for thinking the store was good.

How can I help him?

Keep making sure he is getting calcium. If my understand is correct, it can't be reversed, but you need to make sure it doesn't get worse. Make sure you are dusting feeders and always have a dish of pure calcium in the tank.

I always dust crickets and have a small bone with bone aid in it.

Anything I need to pickup tomorrow (at a different petstore) that would help?

Also, don't just assume the store is bad because of this. Especially if this place is new, they may have gotten him this way. As Felicia said, it may be better now which could be why he is walking normally. That would mean the store may have done the right thing after all.

Get some phoenix worms they naturally have at least 10 times more calcium than other feeders. Go to Mullberryfarms.com you can get 100+ for $5.99 shipped to your door in a couple of days. Phoenix worms have been know to reverse the effects of MBD. Good luck:sad:

Awwww.... what a shame it has/had MBD. It's a very pretty little gecko, so if you can, try to obtain some liquid calcium (neocalglucon) and administer about .25 - .5 daily. MBD cannot be reversed, but it can be stopped from progressing.

Should I also add full spectrum lighting?

He was just eating the bone aid out of the little dish. I think that is a good sign.

Since leopard geckos are nocturnal, their eyes and skin are not adapted for UV rays so they don't assimilate Vit. D from sunlight. Your best bet is liquid calcium, and calcium power with Vit. D for awhile.
