New and figuring out reptile care.

Hi everyone. My girlfriend and I recently bought our first reptile, a cute little leopard gecko. We have had her (we think it's a her) for about 6 months now. We have been super nervous about her care since we've gotten so much conflicting information from the internet. The poor thing has already lost several toes due to a particularly bad shed the day we got her and we only knew a bit of what to do. Needless to say, we've kept a watch since then and we've had to help her shed on multiple occasions since. Some sheds are fine, others not so much.

Anyway, those are issues I'm sure I can address elsewhere. For now I'm just here to say hi and introduce myself and give thanks for finally having a place to turn to where I know the information we receive can be trusted. I've already gone over quite a few threads on housing and health and we'll be changing some things in her tank today based on what I've read here. After that hopefully she'll finally be able to peacefully settle into her new home and start getting to know us better.

Welcome to the forum, and congrats on your gecko... I'd say new but 6 months is a pretty long time so maybe I could say almost new gecko :) I think maybe the best thing you can do is spend some time in the housing and health sections on the forum as shedding issues seem to come up often and housing as well. Feel free to ask any questions you might have, and maybe even fill out the care questionaire in the health section (it's a sticky, says "read before posting" I believe) if you're a little unsure about your housing set up or supplimening or whatever :) . I'm sure the membership would be more than happy to help you get the proper set up for your guy/gal.

Also we demand pix or at least a name of your gecko :D Maybe from the pix someone can help you sex your gecko so you're not guessing him or her anymore. Just put it in a clear tupperware dishor clear bowl and take a picture of it's underside would be the easiest, least stressful way.

Ahh! As crazy as it may seem we've just been calling it "the baby" since we've been unsure about sex, but we're definitely scrambling our brains to think of something... it's been too long, ha. As for pictures, I will definitely have some pictures up possibly tomorrow when I'm a bit less exhausted. I really hope someone can help out with sexing, it'd be nice to finally know for sure, we haven't really known how long it would be till it was old enough to tell. It would also be nice to figure out the morph.
