Got 100 mostly adults and subadults from a local guy for $10 today. He even threw in some roach chow and water crystals! Super nice guy. Given a month or so, I should be producing more than I can contain and will hopefully be able to sell some nymphs off at AHA meetings.

Nice, I'm surprised your cat didn't just jump in :D

Your cat is so interested!
He's a good boy. He sits real still and just watches stuff he's interested in (ie geckos, roaches, mealies).

You think so? Yeah upon closer inspection I have zero nymphs at all! It's all subadults and adults :D
Wish we could get these in Florida ):
The other feeder I was thinking of breeding was isopods, because they have a high calcium ratio. Not as meaty or as active as roaches but if you're just looking for a bit of variety for your animals you may want to check them out!

Depends on what your feeding, if you are feeding hatchlings then you could start feeding off your colony in a month or two. But if you are feeding juvies and adults. I would leave that colony alone for atleast 3-4-5months to let it truly get going. You don't wanna feed to heavy off it right away, and especially since it looks like you have mostly sub-adults. keep the heat on them and give'em time!!

Yup, wait to feed. Well geckos won't eat nearly as much as two monitors, but it is best if you let them multiply first. Or else you'll end up like me & have to reorder roaches after 2 months. It'll be worth the wait.

You are off to a great start! only thing is it will be more like 5 or 6 months depending on your temps in the enclosure. Since you do not have any small or med nymphs u dont have a full cycle of them going yet. so now you will start to see the females dropping some new borns and the new borns take approx 5 to 6 months to reach sexual maturity. so you figure once you see nypms and adults in all stages thats when i say its safe to start making new colonies or selling or feeding out of. always good to have extra large nymphs to replace older breeders and so on. Keep us posted! I started my colony with 300 dubia 150 were adult breeders and 150 or so were mixed size nymphs at temps between 77 and 88 it took approx 6months for me to be comfortable to feed out of and trade off some to friends. :main_thumbsup:
