New Egg Photo + Candling

Hello everyone.

Today a young female laid this single egg clutch. How do you think the egg looks? Everything normal with it?

Also I wanted to ask, when would be the ideal time to candle it for signs of fertility? Right now or would it be better to wait a few days?

Thank you.

I candle mine right away. Especially if they are questionable. They're pretty hardy but If you pulled it directly after she laid it and it hasn't had a chance to harden at all yet I might wait a few hours.

This is how the egg looks like after just 5 days of incubation. Does this mean that it is rotting? Should it be deemed infertile and removed?

It started very white as you can see in the previous photo and now it's getting this dark color. I increased humidity but didn't help with the dent.

Looks like the egg I cut open yesterday. It looked normal from the time it was laid on 4/24, but started turning the same color as yours a few days ago. Picked it up to candle it, and it was dented on the bottom (with the other egg in the clutch being perfectly fine). Cut it open and all that was inside was what looked like cottage cheese. Clearly a dud....

Wait a second... What do you mean by "right away" i mean NEVER an egg will shows veins after it's being laid... Or i missed something?!

I would wait at least a day of two to candle the eggs which gives them time to harden and for more veins to come in and that way you will be definitely able to tell and keep the duds in a different tub or area so they don't rot and infect fertile eggs.

If the egg starts to develop mold it can transfer it to the good egg if it is too close I would keep them in separate containers in the incubator
