Hi... I have 2 new eggs and they are the first that i have ever had. I am excited but very nervous. I have read a lot about incubating eggs but had a few questions to ask those who have experience in them. First of all they have one small dent in both of them. Is that normal? If not what do I do. How are they supposed to feel when they are touched... firm soft or what? She laid these eggs before my incubator came in so I made a one out of the sweater box, vermiculite and heat lamp. So my next questions are... when the incubator comes in and i get it set up is it ok to move them or just let them stay where they are? If the temperature flucuates one or two degrees will that hurt the eggs? Sorry for asking so many questions... I hope that it is not a bother to anyone. Just trying to get hands on info!! Thanks for the help!

The dents could mean that they are either too dry or infertile. I would bury them about a 1/4" down in the vermiculite. This should help them plump back up. How do the eggs feel? If the egg feels like a half empty water balloon they are infertile. The eggs should feel some what firm, kind of leathery. It would be ok to move the eggs when you get your new incubator in. Just be sure not to rotate them and make sure your new incubator is the same temp as your home made one. Mark the top of the eggs with a marker so you know which side goes up just in case they get moved. A one or two degree temp flux should not hurt your eggs but you want your temp to stay as consistent a possible. Hope this helps.

I don't mean to offend, but you should've had an incubator before you even bred your female. Even if the eggs are fertile I fear they will be cooked by the heat lamp. Better luck on the next clutch...
