New Experience

When I checked on the geckos today I witnessed something I had never seen before. Our male Atreyu was at the front of his tub and laid down with his back legs sprawled out like when they are sleeping. He drug his back legs and tail all the way to the back of the tub, got up, went to the other side and did the same thing. I pulled out the tub to check him out because I had never seen him do that before. He is fine. I guess I just caught him marking his territory. Anybody else seen this? Maybe one of you long time owners?

Ya, males do that all the time. They excrete a waxy residue and mark their territory.

I knew about the waxy stuff because you can feel it on the bottoms of the tails. I had just never been able to see them in the act of marking before. I wasn't sure if the scent got laid with normal movement or what. He has proven that they are like many other animals that purposely lay their scent. Maybe I'm a nerd, but I found it pretty cool.

As soon as you change the paper towel they go to town marking their territory! You clean they look at you like "man I gotta fix this" and rub everywhere!!
