ok, well 2 of my geckos will refuse to eat mealworms now, and it has gotten to the point where I am buying crickets every week, and i simply hate crickets lol. I was thinking of getting silk worms or horn worms, but i dont know much about their requirements, or nutritional facts, i was wondering what you guys would do in my situation.

To be honest I wouldn't care about those geckos for few weeks at least.
I guess they are adult ?
If they aren't skinny and are adult, there is no reason not to starve them a little bit.
When they are hungry enough, they will eat anything what moves :)

Adult, well fed geckos can stop eating for few weeks, without ANY harm for their bodies :)

that hardly sounds like good advice, although you may correct me. i would experiment with different feeders untill you find one that those particular geckos like i myself have only ever used meal worms or crickets with the very occasinal wax worm but there are plenty of other threads that explain their nutritional value in detail

I think you will have good luck with silkworms. They are known to be good with picky eaters, and my gecko's just love and devour them just as I heard from other people's experience feeding them. There requirements are about the same with hornworms, avoid moisture at all costs, that is really important. High open container, on mesh so the droppings can fall through(much easier) is what is working for me so far. They are sensitive to rough handling since they have a soft body and bacteria, other then that there easy to care for. Silkworms can last up to 6 days without a feed in my experience. They eat fresh mullberry leaves or 'chow'...If you purchase chow I can also suggest to keep the lid closed as much as possible when opening and closing, I have been told that if its exposed to air to much it may make the silkworms taste sour . goodluck :main_thumbsup:

From a site: (made a thread about this a while ago asking if this was accurate, I thought this was very ineresting)

Silkworms contain an enzyme called serrapeptase that makes calcium absorption more efficient.
Silkworms can reduce inflammation and pain.
Silkworms can break down arterial plaque.

Here is a site about its nutritionhttp://www.silkwormshop.com/benefits.html

Yeah I don't see myself starving my geckos,if I were in their shoes then id get tired of eating the same thing almost everyday too.

grxboa, can you show me a pic of your silk worm set up? And about how many silkies does ur gecko eat a day?

Thanks mardy, but if I get roaches then I would probably get kickedout of my apartment(plus I find roaches disgusting) lol.

My setup is really simple, its just a cricket keeper open and I put them on that sheet, it's like mesh I bought it from an arts and crafts store. I lay it in the middle of the keeper and from time to time shake the sheet and let the rest of the poop fall through to the bottom. If enough moisture is present there feces stay moist and they will die off quick laying around in that, and the feces wont be able to dry out and fall through the holes. I don't feed them, I buy to be able to feed them off within a week so they don't produce to much(easier for me). I had them in a bigger white container on the same thing but it was unnecessarily big so I just recently been using the keeper. As you can see I'm out:p, it looks wet because I just rinsed it, picking up more tonight. Sorry for the big imaging.

Basically, and just give the sheet a shake once a day to let the rest fall through. It was hard for me to find anything with bigger holes locally, believe it or not I looked everywhere. Nowhere had mesh either, out of stock :|. I use to feed 2-3 silkworms to my younger female, and 2 everyday or 3 every other day for my bigger male, I dont feed them large silkworms yet. I now try and give variety, but a serving of silkworms for me is either 2-3. Ill pm you a pic when I get the silkworms and show you what size i'm feeding so you can get a picture.
