Hello all, I wanted to introduce myself. I am Shelagh, a 30yr old mom of 3 girls living in Ontario Canada. I found this site yesterday during the course of doing mad research over the past 2 days on leopard gecko care. I only found out on Christmas eve that I'm going to become a leo mom
I would NEVER usually get a pet so spontaneously, but this is more of a rescue. We spent Christmas Eve with my husband's cousin, her husband and 2 children. They had 2 leopard geckos, and right away I knew the set up was terrible, even though I knew nothing about leopard gecko care (I actually didn't know that they were "leopard" geckos). They had a single small heat rock (which I knew was a no-no), crickets crawling all over which I was worried would bite them since they obviously weren't hungry, nothing on the floor, just plain glass (which I guess isn't the end of the world, it's better than sand), 2 hides (which looked puny, and neither was moist), and no other sources of heat. On the positive the tank is big (40 gallons maybe) and has a nice lid, so I don't have to buy one. The one that wasn't on the heat rock was really cold, and seemed to really enjoy being held by my warm hands. The one on the rock also seemed friendly when I held it.
Later in the evening my DH's cousin (the mom) asked if I knew anyone who wanted the geckos because the kids don't care about them anymore and I jumped on it. I knew with a little research I could have them thriving.
The past couple of days have been intensive research. The conflicting information can be confusing, but with the help of reading this forum, I think I've separated the nonsense from fact and am ready to do this. My DH is going to pick them up right now (I keep worrying about them, lol), then I'm taking tank measurements and going shopping! I love shopping and I have $250 in Christmas money that I'm free to blow on my new babies
Anyway I'll get into more specifics in the Leo section, this post is getting kinda long for an intro, lol. I'm glad to be here, this place looks great!
