Hey everybody,

As stated I'm new, and not only to this forum, but also a proud first time mom of a healthy 7 month old blizzard morph leopard gecko. Over the past few weeks I've been following threads on this forum, and first off i have to say very helpful, so thank you!

Lets see... a little about me..I'm 24, live in Connecticut and work as veterinary technician at an animal hospital..though, we mostly see cats and dogs we do have an exotics doctor, who sees a variety of exotics ranging from awesome birds, large and small lizards of all kinds (yes even our leo's!), amphibians, rodents, marsupials and so forth... I have to say the one thing i enjoy about my career is the opportunity to learn so much about so many different animals...so I'm always open to new ideas and suggestions!

Ok so about my leo... 7 month old blizzard morph, very cute, is mostly a pinkish white, with grey eyes..not entirely interesting to gaze at, but has the most brilliant attitude ever! His environment..a 10 gallon tank, with a hot side of mid to high 80's and a cool side of low 80's rarely high 70's (also using a UTH). As for substrate im using paper towels..i just had this underlying fear that if i used sand, he would become impacted and i would have a whole mess of problems to deal with. Our decorations include a nice little plastic tree and a long tree log..also have one dish for mealies, water and calcium..there is currently only /one/ hide box, but i plan on changing that tomorrow.

QUESTIONS:
1. which side should i place the humid hide and what should i use to keep it humid? a water soaked sponge?

2. Are my temps right, should i increase/decrease?

3. where would a good spot be for the UTH? Currently, since its so small, i have it in one corner of the cooler side, just to keep it from getting to chilly over there.

That about it..Thank you for viewing..also attached a little pic (yes im aware he is missing a toe on his back foot there ;) )..enjoy

The hot side should be in low to mid 90's.
I just remoist my hide everyday. I keep mine on the colder side, but i heard you should have one on both sides.
Welcome to GF, what part of CT are you from?

I agree with the above.. UTH on warm side.. belly heat/ moist hide with paper towel that I moisten.

Good luck.. :)

Nice to see another CT-er.

Ok, here I go lol.

Heres the jist of the requirements for 1 leopard gecko.

A single leopard gecko should have at least 10 gallon tanks worth of space, but the more the merrier.

For one gecko you need at least 1 humid hide and 2 regular hides, providing the regular hides one on the warmer side and one on the cooler side.

The best thing to use in a humid hide is moss, but you will have to spray the moss multiple times a day to keep it humid, but my geckos love moss. Ironically because of this they prefer the humid hide over anywhere else. So I am considering putting moss in all the hides lol.

Also cudos for the paper towel subtrate, I use the same thing, easy to manage and no health risks! ... well almost none, just refrain from ripping up the paper towels into tiny bits because since leopard geckos like to "taste" everything. They could get it stuck to their tongue and accidentally swallow it.

(also using a UTH).

Just curious if your using lights as well? Generally not needed unless you temps in your house are really cold.

I put my hide on the warm side. I use paper towels, only need to moisten them every other day. They're cheap and easy to clean. :)

Low to mid 90s on warm side, low to mid 80s on the cool side.

The UTH should be what makes your warm side. you probably need a bigger UTH.

And... Welcome to GF :)
