Hello, My name is Jen. I am a new mom to two adorable leopard geckos. Don't know the sex on them yet as they are both hatchlings. One is a Leucistic and the other is a normal. The leucistic I have named Phantom and unfortunately he has coccidia. He/she is still eating well and pooping normally so I am not worried. The vet put him/her on one drop of Smz Tmp for fourteen days then we will do another stool sample to see if it has cleared.

any advice or info on treating coccidia would be greatly appreciated.

I was kind of surprised that Phantom had coccidia as he/she is eating well and has a nice sized tail.

Here are couple of pics

Welcome to the forum. Sorry to hear your leo is sick. That's never fun. Usually in dogs and rabbits (sorry to compare it to mammals but I've never experienced it in geckos before) with coccidia you don't necessarily see them go off food, and in some instances they actually eat more to make up for the nutrients they aren't able to absorb but the poo is nasty runny stinky... blech.

Thanks. Thankfully it hasn't gotten to the stinky smelly poo yet. Going to have to make up a bleach solution when I get home to use on his tank

I'd like to also add that when you take in future fecal samples to be tested for coccidia make sure you bring in a few different samples from a couple different days as the coccidia cysts aren't always shed in every poo.

Hello, and welcome. Cute leos you got there. I hope Phantom (I like the name) gets well soon. Sick friends are never a fun thing to deal with.
