So I have my new little leo, Perseus (not sure how old; he's almost exactly five inches long), all set up and he seems generally content with his enclosure, though I need to tweak the temps a bit yet. The weird thing, to me, is that he's not utilizing any of his "proper" hides, but spending most of his time under a log on the cool side of the viv. The log doesn't offer much shelter from light, but he insists on staying there when he isn't exploring.
I set up his hot hide identically to a hide he had in his tank before I bought him (a half-log with an opening 2 inches high at the center), another is a humid hide made of an old mushroom tray about two inches tall, and the last (the cool hide) is a half-log similar to the warm hide.
Is this normal behavior for an adjusting leo, or could there be something I'm doing wrong? The only other reptile I've raised from youth was my savannah monitor, and she immediately accepted the two hides I gave her in her first viv.
