New gecko owner and question

Hello, I'm new here and have a question.

I recently got my first leopard gecko from a local breeder/shop. He's about 6 months old. I have got very into reading all about leos so I can take care of him properly and give him a nice home. I got him setup in a tank with suitable hides, heating mat, food & water bowl and piece of log to sit on etc. I think he likes his home, he likes sitting in his warm hide or on top of it!

Now my question -

He does seem very nervous around people since I've got him home. He does cower when I go to touch him or pick him up. I put my hand in first to get him used to it. But he does seem very skittish and wriggly when he's in my hands and just seems very nervous being held.

Is there a trick to getting him used to me holding him or will he just settle down in time?

Most just settle down in time. I only have 2 that are adults, and still very skittish, despite daily handlings.

I would continue to handle him like you have been, for short periods of time daily. Eventually they get the idea that you are not going to harm them, and calm down :)

This is very normal and the only thing you can really do is just to keep handling him. He should settle down in time. Some leos just dont like being held and will always be a little jumpy but for the most part the all settle down after some time. Keep doing what you are doing, let him get used to you.

Thanks for the welcome and the advice.

Hoping he calms down and soon he won't mind being held.
